Yes, Europe is coming to a standstill and everything goes in lockdown. The US will follow soon.
Hopefully the worst will be behind us within a few weeks. Keep safe!

GREER, S.C. —
The BMW plant in Spartanburg County will temporarily shut down production on April 3, according to Sky Foster, Communications Manager for BMW Manufacturing Co.

Foster sent the following statement to WYFF News 4 on Friday:

"The health and protection of our associates is our top priority. At the same time, the dynamic development of the corona pandemic is having a major impact on the global demand for cars. BMW Manufacturing is taking a flexible approach and adjusting our production volumes accordingly. On April 3th we will shut down production at Plant Spartanburg in South Carolina. The production break is expected to last until April 19th."
My car was scheduled for April 6th

Yes every stage will be grinding down to a total halt soon I expect because it won't be seen as a crucial service - understandably !

Even with so much robotisation and automation, one virus has caused so much disruption and death globally.

Be safe everyone ! We will come back much stronger

Yup. Tbh we won’t be able to drive them much anyway (and rightly so) if we finally go lock down. So not too fussed.

I do personally find it funny that whilst my M50i was going to be one of the longest waits I’ve had it’s the one time BMW would otherwise be delivering my order EARLY.

In the grand scheme of things though it’s totally irrelevant and if it’s hear at Xmas but we beat this shit quickly I’d take that all day long.

Just had a call from BMW to tell me what I already knew about the plant shutting down.

I have been told that my car has been built ahead of schedule, although no timeframe to getting it to the UK!

My X5 30d was "complete" on 1st March. Last Saturday (21st) it was "at port of exit" and today is "at sea".

However, my BMW dealer rang this morning to say that they were shutting up shop from this evening until after Easter. The car should be in Southampton by then.

It all depends on what the state of play is in the UK after Easter...

Same mate. Are you getting yours via Halliwell Jones as I see you're in Cheshire? Looks like ours will be on the boat together.....whenever that may be!

I've been told same
Dealer shut
All sales team sent home
Showroom shut
Expect car after Easter
Which is OK and understandable

It's a very special situation we are in now.
The message from the dealer "at this point we have no idea when your car will be built or delivered" is very understandable for now, not fun but understandable.
I just hope the delay will be a week or 2-4 and not a month or 2-4.

They're definitely ahead in Spartanburg for some builds. I had a Week 15 build (We're currently in Week 13...) and I went from "Production Begins" to "Entering the Assembly Line" last night and and in "Quality Check" this morning. So, probably around 2 weeks ahead for mine...

There are "priority" builds which are being made to an individual customer's specifications. And there are builds for dealers to put on their lots. I have no inside knowledge, but I would surmise that they are drastically cutting back on the dealer spec builds, and that this would free up time for the custom builds to the extent that all the parts were available for the custom trims. I would expect them to try to complete all custom orders that are humanly possible before shutdown. Of course, if your custom leather is still on a cow in Italy, you are going to have to wait.

Ordered in July 2019 a 45e, they said production January. Then they said production week 15, I now hear from the dealer they got acknowledgement of week 14. That is the last working week in Spartanburg. Don't know if the car will go in production that last working week, I would be surprised. Let's hope so it does.

Otherwise it would be better cancel and go for MY2021?

Yes I would do that
And expect minor tweaks by then in terms of spec and packs etc

The transition to my2021 will also be delayed I think + a new order means the 7-9 months waiting time starts all over again.

that makes perfect sense. I was resigned to expecting my custom build to be surfacing somewhere in June/July with the delay and shutdown. But if they are focusing on the 'bird in the hand' deals, that would move me up...and wouldnt you know it? My build moved to a scheduled production status today (it did that yesterday but moved back mid day).
