I think that's where gently and gradually releasing the pressure on the brake pedal before coming to a complete stop helps: by doing that you allow the wheels to keep rolling a little bit thus getting the car to a smooth stop as opposed to a more sudden one if you keep the pressure the same. Having said that, if this doesn't help, I would have the brakes checked by your dealer.

Don't forget the X5 has brake by wire so it may feel a bit different than traditional vacuum assisted setups you've driven for potentially several decades. If ASS is on it might be part of the shutdown too, although I think the mild hybrid made it smoother.

New to X5 (and BMW) and I seem to have an opposite issue..

I am still in week 1 of MY2022 X5 401i. When I brake at low speed, the braking is smooth, but I feel the car takes a bit longer to fully stop…for example, the other day I crossed the stop line by a foot or two.. I am still under 100 miles. It this just about being used to X5 braking or more?

What car are you coming from? More generally, though, I'm happy with the stopping power.

Here's what the manual says:

"Brake discs and brake pads only reach their full effectiveness after approx. 300 miles/500 km. Drive moderately during this break-in period."

Since you're still under 100 miles, maybe that's why it doesn't feel quite right?

I have the same thing with my brand new 2024 X5 xDrive 40i (with M Sport package). I find it a bit annoying and kind of a negative point for the overall very lux driving comfort.

I never had this issue on my prior X5s, X3s and 3 series.
