I'm having the same issue on my Pixel 8 Pro. I had it paired but it wasn't working all the time. So I went to reset it and try to set it up again. Now I can't set it up at all.

Digital Key Plus on Android has never worked well in the month or so I have had the car. I just got the Pixel 8 Pro about 2 weeks ago so before then I had Pixel 6 Pro and it was sporadic on there as well.

I'm on the 07/2023.40 iDrive version.

All Google has for this "Can't pair" message is the following:

"If you get a “Can’t pair” error, your device may have moved or timed out. Try again and place your phone on the key reader. Don’t move your device until pairing is complete. If you still get an error message, check the screen on your car or the digital car key app for more info."

Which I have tried it all.. resetting iDrive, myBMW app, Google Pay and Wallet, restarting phone, etc. Nothing seems to help.

Seems like it; I have the same exact issue that OP describes with my Pixel 8 Pro, but can pair the digital key, to the same car, perfectly fine to my Pixel 6 pro.

When I start the pairing process on my Pixel 6 Pro, it spins for a little bit (maybe 15-20 seconds), then shows an image of the center console of my car's model where it wants me to place the phone on the NFC pad. On my Pixel 8 Pro, I get a "can't pair" error message about 2-3 seconds after starting the pairing process; both regardless of proximity to the car.

Just spoke to pixel support via chat. According to them, the digital key feature is not enabled on the pixel 8 Pro and will be enabled with a later update.

Thank you! I hope this is true! I updated to the newest google firmware beta 2.1 and it still is not allowed to pair.

Hello all !

Im having the exact same issue. I got the pixel 8 pro 10 days ago. Once i completed setup of pixel phone via iphone to pixel 8 pro transfer process, the next day i went inside my X1 and initiated pairing process , it asked me activation code and i used the code from the digital key plus email we receive previously, it paired and worked for a day . But every few hrs the passive entry stopped working and i had to reset bluetooth. So fed up with this , i had removed or rest the digital key and tried to pair again, since then i started to get this cant pair error and i tried 100 times to try to get it work, no luck at all. So i went back to the store and returned the pixel 8 pro and took another brand new unit.
With the brand new phone , i started the process and still the same error- cant pair… …
So i asked my friend who has an Samsung ultra 23 phone to help me lend his phone to setup digital key plus.. it just worked right away without errors…

This is clearly a software bug in android 14 with pixel 8 pro. I raised a bmw ticket also with bmw assist and waiting for a response.

Either pixel 8 pro is not enabled the for Digital key or bmw digital key plus is currently not supported for pixel 8 pro of might they have a bug in their app..

I really hope to stay on this forum to get an update or provide an update if i get if to work..

Yeah, just replying to say I have the same issue with a new P8P - I have a P7P that paired fine and like others I've tried everything, including deleting the P7P key but no bueno.

Then I tried to repair my P7P and it worked the first time.

One question, people are saying "reset your digital key to factory settings"; where do you do that? In the app? I dont' see where. Thanks!

In the car, under digital key. Tried mulitple times but it doesn't work. Btw BMW support says pixel 8 pro isn't supported but I think their documentation just hasn't been updated since the phone is new and clearly has the hardware.

Oh okay.. so its clearly software enabled in BMW backend systems. Guess we all have to wait then. Btw , when u say BMw support did they send u an email or on the phone with bmw assist ?

I have my vehicle back from the dealer and have the same issue now with the new phone. It's a bit frustrating since I bought the phone in hopes I would be ready to park my vehicle with the app when if/when it becomes available. My Pixel 7 was working fine as a key though.

Yup, I deleted the key from my P7P then re-added it no problem, but P8P just gives me can't connect

What version of iD8 (or 8.5) is loaded on the car? It sounds like an iD8/8.5 version issue and my guess is you may have one of the initial 8.5 releases that has known Bluetooth/WiFi issues with CarPlay, etc.

Interesting as that's iD8 but an early 03/2023 release. The iD8 on my wife's 40i is 03/2023.45 and it's rock solid with the Pixel 7 Pro now on Android 14. I did dig into a few other aspects including that the primary difference between the 7 Pro and 8 Pro Bluetooth wise is 5.2 vs 5.3 but same chips. The oddity is that the S23 is also 5.3. Out of curiosity what version of Android is your S23 on? Guessing 13 unless you've had 14 pushed by your carrier.

I got around to contacting Google support the other day and they also confirmed it's not available on the Pixel 8 Pro. They went on to say it should be available this year. They also offered another method for providing feedback on this which I included in the screenshots.
