I contacted the Dealer Stock Manager and he emailed me the VIN. Then got it on MyBMW app. Email from BMW arrived today showing production status

Anyone got a view on a 30D, my dealer says it's the pick between that and the 40i. I'm anxious as I've told them it will be used mostly around the suburbs / city and won't get huge freeway kms. Admittedly the 30D feels great to drive.

I went back and forth so many times with this. Like you I’ll be using the car for mostly around town with some highway kms and no towing. Ultimately ordered a 40i thats yet to be delivered. Time will tell I guess.

Dont listen to the dealer ! ..40i all the way, why?

1. Its bloody fast, I mean forget the 5.5s to 100km, these things get there in less than 5secs. There is a reason the Highway Patrol cops drive them. These B58 engines are so under-stressed its not funny...you can easily put a Racechip in them and reduce your sprint to 100kph to less than 4secs.

2. The 40i/B58 sounds awesome. No comparison to a Diesel. BMW still make the best Diesels in the business, they are still quiet compared to your Toyota's and Fords, but love that throaty girgle that comes out of the Sport exhaust of the 40i.

3. Fuel consumption is not bad at all, I got 10.6l/100km in February (driving to work 3-4 days per week) - which for a car this size and this much power is amazing. In heavy/congested traffic, pop it in Eco mode and take it easy. You're paying something over $120k here, doesn't make sense to be a miser on fuel....

4. It still tows well, I tow my boat several times a year, with one of them being a 350km (700km round-trip) - no issues. Consumption goes to 12-13l/100km, but who cares - dont do it often enough to worry about it.

I went from a 2019 30D (yes I took the advice of a dealer...to my bad !) to a 2021 40i, and never looked back. If you are a "car" /driver person and value performance, go the 40i.

If you are a miser on a few bucks of petrol, tow a lot, and dont care about performance go 30D.

It all comes down to what your priorities are mate...

Good luck on you choice !

Thanks everyone, our other car is an M140 so familiar with the B58. Not looking for performance from the X5, looking for a comfy family car. Main concern is around the diesel particulate filter and issues with only driving in the suburbs. If that won't cause me any issues then happy to go the 30D and have my fun in the M140.

2021 30D owner in Melbs here. Great car, wonderful in line six diesel, laser lights, air suspension, superb tow car, wonderful tech, super comfortable.

Think the LCI is nice but what's with the pulsing indicators and no Bimmercode is bad.

And yet I've contacted the dealer to spec out a fully loaded M60i.... Sometimes logic takes a holiday.

How have you found the air suspension on Melbs roads?

Outstanding. The ride is superb even with 22 inch wheels.

I regularly get time driving a Cayenne Turbo and the X5 30D BMW ride is vastly more refined.

The M60i will be spec'd with 2-axle air.

Hi all,
I’m in Melb and ordered a 40i on the sales event in late Feb.
Was told build around March/April and car may be ready around June.

Hi mr23, welcome to this thread! Your timeline sounds about right. What colour combo and options?
