Ultimate Care Maintenance Plans for X5 45e
Looking at the Ultimate Care + and the Ultimate Care scheduled plans for our X5 45e on order. It looks like pricing is identical for 40i and 45e... and given the biggest benefit of the UC+ is brakes, seems like maybe not a great deal for the 45e? I'm not familiar with regenerative braking on the 45e, but if it's anything like on BEVs like my Jaguar I-Pace, brake wear should be minimal. Any thoughts on this? Leaning towards just adding the UC Scheduled to include scheduled maintenance through factory warranty period. Also appreciate any experience with negotiating price on UC plans and/or BMW extended warranties. Thanks.

I ma taking delivery this week and I am also curious about what other buyers have purchased at the 'financing step' ... I think most forum gusy seems to waive all the dealer sold 'plans'. I will most likely turn them all down and also go with Geico 'mechanical breakdown insurance', which seems very interesting, even thought some forums members offer good discout on extended warranties.

Yeah, I got a quote from a forum guy who works for a dealership (well, his Finance person). Definitely discounted but still incredibly pricey.
The main benefit is brakes and I know the 45e has some regenerative braking. On a Tesla, you can easily go 150k-200k before needing a first brake job because of that regenerative braking. Most BMW brake jobs fall into the year 3 or 4 so if the 45e extends things, it probably isn't worth it. Just find an independent shop to do it cheaper by then. |

Very interested in the plans also. Getting my first BMW in a week or two and would like to know if the extended warranty is worth it and what Ultimate Care I should get.

Purchased Ultimate Care+ (3yr/36) upgrade for my G05 since I optioned M Sport brakes - (retail is $700 MSRP - dealer marked up to $1000 but negotiated down to $800 to support my finance guy LOL).
My F15 needed front brakes at 25K miles then rears at 33K miles before turn in - UC+ was around $600 back then and paid for itself with first brake job. Pre-covid, traffic sucks in the DMV - spend 1+ hr crawling and on brakes commuting to work.

The regenerative breaking of the 45e can slow down the vehicle at 0.3g. I couldn't find a lot of data on what normal Gs are for breaking but I saw somewhere that 0.6g is the limit at which drivers can handle the vehicle while breaking.
In normal driving I very rarely hit the max regenerative breaking power indicator. It happened once as I was going down a ramp and got a yellow/red light sooner than what I expected. I drive like a grandpa though. |

The regenerative braking varies on the drive mode selected. It seems strongest in Electric and Adaptive. I came out of a 6 speed manual Golf R and I would say I'm actually braking less in the 45e. As long as you anticipate stops and get off the gas pedal early it almost comes to a stop on it's own. I wouldn't buy a plan just for the brakes.

One reason I bought it for my X5M was they told me when they replace the pads they will do the rotors on my vehicle at the same time. Not sure if that is for all BMW but he said for the M's they will. If I remember right it was 1800 for the full job so paid 700 for my first one, thought it was a okay deal.
