I have always been a big Michelin fan and I have these on my previous Audi A8l and currently on the 2022 S580. Very smooth, quiet and great ride feel. These will be great all seasons for those who need them. I do switch to winters too.
https://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires...XLN0&tab=Sizes This will be my replacement for my 20s on the 50e. I am very happy with the current Continental LX SSR on it right now. Very smooth at all speeds and super quiet. I am very fussy about road noise and unnecessary vibrations. |

I am placing an order for a X5 50e and was going back and forth on tire set-up. I prefer a smoother ride with less noise, I'm assuming the air suspension will account for a smoother ride, the noise however, will depend on the tire so what would everyone suggest, this is my first BMW and in my Audi A4 I've either had Pzero's which were horrible and wore out faster than I could replace them or continentals which always had a nice ride. I also live in a winter area so need to put on winter tires to head into the mountains. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

I recently replaced factory 21” RF tires with slightly taller non-OEM all season non RF tires. The road/tire noise is virtually gone, except really bad patches of road.

Not using a spare. I bought a air compressor and flat tire sealant kit and a plug kit. Plus I have AAA and BMW roadside assistance as a backup.

Following this thread closely if anyone has an actual remedy for the noise. I can tell on our 50e that there is much more noise on the front left while driving than there is on the front right when riding as a pax. Seems too loud compared to a prior 40i we test drove with the same 21's on it. Have Pirelli's on right now. Really hoping its just a tire noise. But if anyone has a true change in their noise level would really appreciate what was done.

These are the tires I replaced my run flats with, and they have been exceptionally quiet. Way longer wear/ warranty too.

I can't imagine them being louder than my current Pirelli's but I'll find out in a few days. I decided to change after reviewers noted the Michelins to be exceptionally quiet for a run flat. I can always change back to Pirelli's if needed. Comparing a non run flat to a run flat is not exactly fair in regards to noise.

I have a fairly loud noise from the front left, curious if it lines up with what others are experiencing. It does not sound like a bad tire or wheel bearing to me, there is no rotation type noise that changes with vehicle speed. Sounds more like a an echo or something resonating. Almost like the warbling that can sometimes happen on concrete roads or bridges.
The sound is quite obvious from about 15mph all the way up to 75+, it might get a bit louder with speed but seems to not have much to do with speed. It is worse on rougher road surfaces but always there even on smooth. If the car goes over a bump there is a pulse of the sound that coincides with that. It is clearly audible over the stereo. I have continental cross contact lx sport 20in, which do not seem to be very common in this thread. I'm going to take a look to see if it has the sound dampers on it & will be talking to the dealer as well. Am feeling a bit dumb for not driving the thing before signing papers. edit: no dampers, the mounting hole is there. Last edited by Okpotato; 08-14-2023 at 06:51 PM.. |

I just bought a new 2024 X5 50e with 21in Perellis. And as soon as I drove off the lot, I heard that same sound. Sounded like the driver side. Turned around and came straight back to the dealership. The shop foreman drove with me and confirmed the sound was too loud and excessive. He was going to see if swapping out the wheels from a different X5 would solve the issue. But he never did because he drove a regular X5 with 20s and heard a similar sound. But it wasn’t as loud as my new 50e. They told me to drive it and they will contact Bmw and get back to me. The service department supposedly contacted Bmw and were told it’s working as designed. If this is true, this is truly ridiculous. Out the door it’s close to $100,000 with all the bells and whistles. Bmw really needs to figure this out. Even if it’s as easy as adding the harmonic dampers.

I would think it’s the tires. I will say I’ve had P-zeros on other cars and they wore out super fast and were loud. When I did a test drive if the 50e, I was super impressed with how quiet the cabin was in city and highway conditions. I would seriously think it’s your tires.
