Sport + is a shaper version if sport with more aggressive throttle response and shifting. Basically it's a sportier sport mode which is a bad way if explaining things.

In the F15, you were able to adjust your Sport model individually for suspension and transmission.

In the new models, X3 included I noticed they added an additional setting for the engine.

I noticed when I set the engine to sport plus and stomp on the throttle while looking at the HP and Torque meter, the torque immediately goes to max. This doesn't happen if I'm comfort mode.

Does anyone have specific details on what the Engine Sport plus mode actually does? I was hoping it would crank the boost a bit but that's wishful thinking.

Well for one it changes the throttle mapping to be more sensitive. Next, the engine is allowed to hit higher revs thanks to your trans holding gears longer. I don't think it affects the boost directly but rather through keeping revs lower so boost doesn't build as much.

Below is based on driving my M40i over the past 12k miles.

Engine: Relates to the throttle mapping and exhaust valve. you can keep the trans in comfort and engine in sport+ for an interesting experience.

I can easily hit the max torque and HP in comfort mode or even Eco Pro, my foot simply must go further into the floor

Sport+ in auto mode keeps your revs and gear at a position for max power output for your current speed and throttle position.

You can also configure sport+ to have either the drive train or chassis or both tightened.
Which means the electric steering and suspension can be stiffer.

Manual mode keeps your rpm at the optimal level for the current gear you're in.

Sport+ also provides the most sensitive throttle response causing the revs go up faster than any other mode with the same pressure on the gas pedal.

For instance in eco mode you can press the gas pedal half way down and revs will go up slow and the gears will shift at a low rpm to save the most amount of gas.

In sport+ when you press the gas half way down, the rpm goes up a lot faster and gears shift at the optimal rpm for the next gear.

Also, if you're cruising in sport+ mode at a low rpm in 7th gear for example, then you floor the gas holding it there, pressing down shift once will automatically down shift to the optimal gear and rpm for Max output. So you don't have to search for the right gear for Max rpm at your current speed.

Sport + normally also relaxes the traction control - enables a little more sliding in the corners, although a terrifying thought in an SUV.

Try driving in Sport + with DSC off, that's a fun time if you can handle it.

I thought holding higher rev's was more of a function of setting the transmission to Sport Plus mode vs. Engine in sport plus mode

I do agree that Engine in sport plus mode = quicker throttle response.

I typically drive in sport individual mode/dampener sport/transmission in regular mode.

Looking for the stiffer response but without the high rev's from stop light to stop light
