Lease payoff: dealer inspection?
My 2021 X5 is approaching lease end, and I plan to pay it off.
The other day I received a call and an email from the dealer saying an inspection would be required even if I chose to buy the car. I hadn’t contacted the dealer before then, and I didn’t see any mention of inspections in the payoff documents from BMW (I’m in CA). Is there anything I missed? |

Small print on the back of your contract, since rubbed off:
“At or near lease end, you will be required to come into the dealership so we may buy your soon-to-be-off-lease X5 for an extremely low figure and show then sell you a new LCI of your choosing. This should be done as soon as possible in case you choose a custom color.” |

I call BS. I paid mine off online without visiting or speaking with any dealer. Just go online and pay it off. If you are buying it why would it need an inspection unless you want one.

Tell the dealer that you are not interested in the dealer inspection unless of course they want to do it for free. As stated in your lease contract, you can buy the vehicle for the residual amount not anything more.
