Windshield Wiper Clatter

Yet another annoying defect on top of the A/C issue.

Just wondering if the rest of you are having any issues with your windshield wiper? I was able to get a video of the "clattering" on the back swing of the drivers side windshield wiper.

Curious... Did you coat your windshield with a ceramic coating?

It's hasn't been identified as an issue. I just remember the last post about the wipers the owner did have ceramic on the windshield.

My unsubstantiated hypothesis is that the hydrophobic properties of the ceramic coating affect the wiper performance because the wipers depend on the rain as a bit of a lubricant against the windshield. If you're driving at a decent speed, and have ceramic on the windshield, there's a good chance the windshield doesn't have enough water on it to lubricate wipers. The result would be the shutter.

I would be interested to see if the wipers still shutter for the OP if he sprays windshield washer fluid on the windshield.

That’s a good observation. I use Rain-X on my classic 911 because the wipers suck and are horribly inefficient so I need that water moving off ASAP. I wonder if ceramic on my windshield would be better for this purpose.??

This is true. Every time i apply a fresh coat of ceramic coating to my windshield it would stutter the first couple of times i use the wipers when it rains. It eventually goes away though.

The blades are probably dirty. Just had this happen on my car. I cleaned them with a MF towel and some soap and now it gone. I think its all the bug carcasses on my windshield.

At 500 miles. I doubt it would be dirty.

Damn, it could always be but if that low then IDK. Just from my experience, when I clean the blade it goes away.
