I have the base audio system in my 40i. I know it was a miss.
I went on bavsound having used them before and bought the plug and play revenant amp. The install seemed quick enough (they don’t have a video for the G05, they say its the same as the F25). That’s true for about 30% of the install.

I mean the bracket is right where they say it is. And its easy enough to remove.

But the kit they send for the G05 has a mounting plate that doesn’t work with the G05 frame. And while the main cable does in fact mate with their wiring harness, the original amp has a number of extra cables it needs to plug in that the revenant doesn’t have a spot for.

Ive emailed them for support but if anyone else has run into this issue yet please ping me back.

Just heard back from Bavsound.
Turns out their site is confusing. And their service advisors aren’t so smart.
The X5M and X6 they have posted as compatible are the F15 variant even though they’re 2019 models. They don’t have G05 compatible amps yet. No timeline on production as the amp wiring is different (hence my issue).

Oh well, return it is.

Hi OP - Did you install the speakers? If so, how are they?

BMW switched things up on us, the new vehicles now all have a Receiver Audio Module (RAM). Instead of separate tuners, ASD unit, and amplifier, they're all in one unit. Base systems just have the RAM, while HK & Bowers have an additional booster amp mounted beside it to power the additional speakers.

I'm going to bite the bullet on the bav speakers.. I never learn from my mistakes.

08 335 w/ HK -> 14 335 w/ base stereo.. meh
17 540 w/ HK -> 20 X5 w/ base stereo.. WAY better than the F30 base, but not as good as the 540 HK.

I think just the speaker upgrade will suffice for me. I never blast my music "loud", but I notice a difference in depth between the X5 and 540.

I didn’t. I made that switch in my ‘12 x5. It was noticeable but not dramatic. I kind of wish I remembered to pull them out before I traded it back in. Someone else got a nice deal.

I figured I’d try the amp since it’s a simple swap. But not this time...

Ah ok. The factory amp gets loud enough for me, the sound just isn't distinct if that makes sense. At a higher volumes, it's just all flat.
