Anybody try Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractive tires?

Has anyone driven the new Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractive tires yet?

I'm considering buying them from my xDrive40i on 20" square wheels. Top 3 contenders when shopping on TireRack are Pirelli Scorpion Weatheractive, Pirelli Scorpion AS Plus 3, or Michelin CrossClimate 2. For some reason, the Michelins don't do it for me appearance wise and the weatheractives seem to be reviewed well at tire rack. The price difference in the grand scheme of things isn't really a factor.

I'm in Denver so snow is a consideration but nothing too crazy. Some winter commutes and ski trips where any decent all season would be fine.

I've always gotten good performance from a variety of Pirelli tires both A/S and Performance. Have not had the weatheractive. The only Conti tire I'd consider is the latest version of the DWS which are not available in your size.

I decided to stop overthinking it and just buy the Pirelli WeatherActives. Already back from picking them up from the TireRack distribution hub. I'll report back once they are on the car.

Here's the stack of 275/45R-20 tires waiting to go on take off 740M 20" wheels.

I'm sure they will be great in snow but I'd like to know how are they noise wise on dry roads.

So I haven't been able to drive this car much lately. It developed a turbo coolant leak and it's going into the dealership tomorrow.

I had 21" run flats so going to non run flat 20" tires is a noticeable improvement comfort over small bumps and vibrations. I don't have a great apple to apples comparison. I also only had the car for about 2 weeks before putting on these tires so even more new to me.

It did snow about 5 inches the day after I put on the tires and they worked great on the few runs to the grocery store. Nothing was all that snowy or icey so again, not very helpful feedback.

It's possible there is a slight hum a slow highway speeds but it could have just been the road surface. I feel like I didn't notice anything at 65 mph but I need more time in the car.

They do look fairly sporty, especially considering the winter rating. I'll get a picture later on.

Yes, we’ve had these tires for roughly 5k. I had to order/source them as they were not as common. Here in WA we get lots of rain during winter and occasional snow each year. Took the X5 up to Whistler Canada last year and had absolute confidence around every corner in wet conditions. Ride was smooth and quiet. No snow on the roadway so this winter will be more of a turn test. So far, very pleased with this tire.

I'm having a set of the Scorpion WeatherActives (in 275/45R20, squared) put on soon. Will update after the break-in period.

In this size, they're currently $311.61 per tire minus $120 instant rebate and $80 mail-in rebate on Tire Rack, so $1,046.44 before tax. Given the price and good reviews, it seems like a strong option for a 3PMSF-rated all-season go-flat.

Used them for 2 seasons on my old Q5 and they aren't my favorite. They aren't terribly noisy compared to other snow tires, but they didn't seem to grip as well either. I just picked up a set of Nokian Hakkapelittas for the X5. Used them on my 435i and really like them despite the extra noise. I live around 1300' in the Mt Hood foothills, and we see frequent icy/slick conditions with several days of snow each winter. I suspect the Scorpions would have worked fine in a more urban/suburban setting.

Are you sure you had the WeatherActives? They are new, only announced in Sept 2022 and are an all season, not a snow tire.

toekneenose any updates or further thoughts? I'm debating between the Weatheractives and the AS Plus 3s. I'm basically looking for quiet at 80mph, absorbs the bumps at 25mph, good enough in the snow, and decent tread life. In other words the perfect tire haha.

I'm curious about road noise and ride of the Weatheractives. Does the softer rubber used in 3PMSF do a better job of absorbing bumps and potholes? What about highway road noise?

I'm replacing the OEM run-flats that came from the factory (Conti LX25). After 13K miles and one year they're already down to 5/32. Horrible tires I can't wait to replace them. Road noise has increased substantially as they've worn.

Sorry, my X5 is still at the dealership for warranty repair. Not expected back until beginning of December.

We made the same switch from 21" RFs to 20" rims and tires. Much happier with the ride on 20s.
Been about 1.5 years. Couldn't be happier with the the CrossClimate2's.
The tread design is...unconventional, but the wet performance has been excellent. We haven't been hammered with snow, but the light snowfalls have been fine.
Previously used Hakka's in the winter, but over last few years, haven't seen a ton of heavy snow, so we switch to all seasons.

Quick update from my side:
We did a few 1+ hour drives over the holiday on these tires. Mostly just highway and no real testing weather. I don't see a downside yet to these tires. I'm happy with the way these feel and sound, and I have a little bit more peace of mind we will be good when the winter weather finally hits here in Denver or we go up to the mountains.

Again, I'm coming from a couple of weeks of driving on stock 21" run flats before moving to these 20" non-run flat all weather tires so I'm not the best judge of deltas between the 2 setups.

Confession: I don't own a BMW i just came here to talk about these tires before putting them on my Buick. I appreciated the comments so I figured I'd contribute.

I put some 255/55 R20 on just before Christmas. On dry roads I don't really notice any "downsides" compared to the factory Continental LX20. Similar handling characteristics, and noise and ride seems to be about a wash. Some road surfaces are quieter with the Pirelli's, some seem louder. Ride overall seems a little better, but some bigger bumps seem to crash a bit more? Hard to say for sure.

In winter conditions they are miles ahead of the Conti's, but maybe not quite as good as the Goodyear Winter commands on my other car. Great on the slush and snow, but not perfect on the hard pack and ice. Some of that is probably the weight of the SUV though.

Overall I'm happy. I wanted to avoid needing separate winter tires/rims. These give good enough winter performance without compromising dry and wet.

I'll give an update too.

I have been driving around up in ski country and during the long cold spell here in Denver and I have nothing but good things to say about performance of these tires in winter conditions. I was trying to feel out the limit with some hard turns of the steering wheel and I got nothing but confidence. Hard breaking triggered the traction control but still continued to come to a quick and controlled stop.

I don't see a down side with dry road driving either. Seems to be a great tire for year round driving. I'm not articulate or qualified enough to give a professional review, but I'm happy with my purchase.

My sister had them on her GLC this winter. We had 10” of snow this year and she got around no problem. Mind you, she just got them mounted so the tread life on them was 100%.

On ice, they slid and her ABS kicked in. But this is normal for any tire, no tire is ice proof!
