To close the loop on my earlier post, I did proceed with the dealer servicing of 4 new brake pads/sensors and two rear discs. The initial quote was $2600, however, I was pleased the dealer was good enough to apply a coupon for prior generation of X5, bringing the total cost down to $1100 including all parts and labor. Very happy with that and moving on.
I did read up quite a bit on replacing the discs at only 33K miles, but did see the measurements from a video the dealership sent, and give them credit for the amount of life still left in the front rotors. All that to say, this X5 M50i is heavy on rear brakes for some reason!

similar situation as OP, 18K miles on 3 year old X5. (still under factory warranty). Slight wrapping when light braking between 30-50 mph. Currently considering buying Ultimate Care +. Current read on brake pads is about 7mm, Service Advisor said pads need to get to 3mm before pads and rotors can be covered under UC+. Anyone knows if this is true and up to which point I don't qualify to purchase UC+?

Drilled rotors can lead to cracks but more importantly they remove mass from the rotor which reduces it's ability to dissipate heat. Rotors are essentially just heat sinks. |

I am in the same boat. Currently, rear brakes are squealling like crazy, trying to look into getting the parts individually and then haveing an independent shop put them on. But there are about 5 different brake configurations. Does anyone know the part numbers for a 40i with M Sport brakes? Some of the descriptions on the parts sites will say "for m sport brakes" blah blah blah and then end with "not for m sport"

Just replaced mine with X3m rotors and Isweep pads from RG sport, rotors were from Bimmerworld. FCPeuro also has them. They also have the X5 msport OEM rotors if you don’t want drilled. I will say the X3M rotors look phenomenal however you can’t use the factory set screw, which isn’t an issue. Msport rotors should be 370x24 Here are the part numbers for the X3M rotors: Rear right: 34118054828 Rear left : 34118054827 Pads: https://www.rgsportshop.com/index.ph...2291&limit=100 If you do decide to get the pads give them a call first and confirm with your vin. I wanted better stopping power so that’s why I went with isweep.

I’m getting all the parts, the most shocking and frustrating part is no independent BMW shops will put on customer supplied parts, even if they are OEM. But the BMW dealership will, which seems so strange to me, the dealership even said they would install non OEM parts but wont warranty the work. Is this a new development in the independent shop world? BMW is going to charge $460 per axel for the service but I cant shop around and tell if that is a good deal or not

YMMV. Indy supplied parts (either OE or generally WorldPac and the like OEM) - they always tend to charge the OE Part Price even though it may be 50%+ less that they are installing (OEM). That does come with a 1 or 2 year warranty from Indy....so it's a built in cost I suppose. You will find most Indy's are charging Book Time just like the dealers.(this is how Indy's are in my area). May be different based on your local. Maybe a smidge less but Indy's in my Area labor wise is same, similar to dealers......just it's more value added service on the repair. It's not just 1 item they will repair. It's the while I'm in there approach, maybe you should do X Y or Z. |

Over $5K
Wife took in 2017 X5 and was quoted over $5k for front and rear brakes including rotors and hoses by the dealer (Westmont, IL). Will be taking to and independent shop, but the dealers charge criminally high prices.

I ended up taking the parts I got from get parts.com into the dealership and they charged me $380 an axle for the labor which seemed really fair!
