BMW Italy recreated the Monza track in the Sahara desert (in Morocco) to show ruggedness of the new BMW X5. Creation of the desert track took over 50 people two weeks. Over 3,500 cubic meters of sand and earth had to be moved to accomplish this.

I liked the video, especially production notes. Most BWW X5 vehicles will not encounter the same road conditions (excluding ones sold in Dubai perhaps). Yet the marketing message "imagine yourself ..." is powerful enough to encourage sales.

I did not notice any observations about the suspension details on the vehicles being driven on the desert course.

How is a race around a desert considered to be flaunting money? The whole point of the advertisement is to show the capability of the X5 to encourage buyers... At least that is what I got from it.

I totally agree about not splurging on silly marketing. In this case however they most likely have hired and paid poor locals to build the track... But for sure this was no match for the whole production/filming costs

This is all fine and dandy but I'd like to see at least one full lap with an in-car video to actually see how the car performed. These hard cut, fancy aerial videos only make it look like marketing and don't let the car sell itself.

The more I think about it, maybe you have forgotten. BMW does make/build things for people in need.

They built me an X5... because I NEED to trailer my M5 or M2 sometimes.

He is also too thoughtless to understand that marketing sells vehicles.

Selling BMW's allows the company to pay the thousands and thousands of BMW employees this thing called money.

This "money" allows their employees to provide food and shelter to themselves and family (if they are so selfish to have children).. since he reminded all of us there are "children" in need already.
