Glad to hear others are also tackling BMW about this snowchains issue.
So far my dealer has no solutions.

The main issue for me is the colour coding on the car is quite poor without the M Sport pack. Even with this pack - the car has less colour coding on the rear and front than the old model!

I've told the dealer I'm not prepared to outlay $100K+ on a car without decent colour coding!

I've told them to look at 2 options if they want a sale:
1) allow the M aerodynamics option 715 to be ordered separately
2) dealer gives me a quote to get colour coding done aftermarket

They are not happy I'm stalling the sale over this, and the X5 product manager (Ryan) at Mulgrave HQ - is just trying to brush it off as a Victoria only issue.

The more prospective customers who raise this - the better. In my experience it takes alot of complaints from customers for BMW to get out of bed and fix things

Jammit

We took our F15 50i on 20s to the snow - on a no chains day They still fitted (on and off in 30 sec) them for compliance reasons I'm sure. I do have a set of E70 19s in the shed for this reason though...

No colour choice again! Do we have to wait for LCI? No silver, no red, one blue.
No word on any individual out of Spartanburg MPowerRo, have you priced a build? Is 3rd row still complimentary with M sport?

Yes have a build in mind. Waiting on pricing.

7 seats is $3700 plus mandatory air suspension at $2300. M sport is $4000 and is separate.

snow chains partly solved

Have confirmed with chains supplier that the M-Sport 20" wheels have plenty of clearance for chains. ie: 305/40 R20 rear tyres
Konig XG12-267 recommended

BMW still doesn't recommend snow chains on anything above the 19" tyres - so need to use at own risk.

This is despite US BMW having the following recommended winter tyre set which they could also choose to recommend in Australia if they don't like chains on low-profile regular tyres:
https://www.shopbmwusa.com/PRODUCT/6...EEL---TIRE-SET

There is another irony with BMW Australia's position on snowchains.

BMW are the major sponsor at Falls Creek (Victoria) and promote X5 everywhere at this ski resort. Other than the base X-Line model with 19" wheels, BMW does not recommend this car be driven to the snowfields, as they do not support snowchains and these are compulsory for most victorian resorts.

So they choose to advertise the car in one of the few locations in victoria where it can't be driven!

Some might consider this false advertising....

I expect that the Australian X5 Product manager, Ryan Begg, may not be aware.....

Finally placed my order this week. I think I missed the January build slot and now the earliest delivery date is May 2019!
I didn't get too many options (just 3d M-Sport), so was pleasantly surprised at the level of discounts available, particularly on a new model.

Mpowero - that's a nice spec.
Do you find the heated seats worthwhile?
I didn't realise these were a separate option outside cold weather countries.

Yeah jammit there are a few options:
1) 494 seat heating for driver and front passenger $700
2) 4HA front and rear seat heating $1500
3) 4HB heat comfort package (includes steering wheel, front seats, arm rests) $1400

Have had these in the last three cars and like it - especially having the windows/roof open at night.

Have many of you gone with the 40i option over the 30d / 50d? After much back-and-forth I ended up going with the 30d yesterday but curious to hear others thoughts, as I had actually decided on the 40i before signing on the dotted line...

I don't think it is as popular as the diesel in Australia but the tide is turning against diesel, it seems.

There were only diesels to test drive but I've had cars with TT I6 motors before and like them, and the B58 is meant to be an excellent unit.

And the engine in my other car is an S55...

Yeah I found the engine great in the X3 M40i which perked my interest in optioning it on the X5. But I think the negative sentiment about diesel is not based in fact but rather a knee-jerk reaction to certain bad events and some poor performers from an emissions perspective in more budget friendly brands. BMW and Merc diesels can be more environmentally friendly than a petrol alternative while also delivering the torque and longer fuel range benefits.

Diesel has been by far the most popular X5's sold in Australia. Dealer confirmed to me that BMW Australia expects this trend to continue.
I currently own an E70 diesel and the G05 3d is far more refined.

Is it possible to track our cars build like the guys in the US can? I have a production number but not a VIN, but it’s scheduled for a week 3 build so I’m keen to see if it’s on track...

I tracked my M4. You need a VIN.
