Apologies for delivery mishaps queries

My excuses include: limited mobility and driving due to recovery from fusion foot surgery, upset stomach all day that disturbed my session this morning, and although I have benefited from the threads here they are not always organized in a way that I can quickly find answers lacking the best keyword searches coupled with a failing memory.

Okay, so here is my list of misses from today's delivery with the sales agent and IT guy. This is a $90K 5.0i M Sport. Sales said I have the latest software but I failed to check that myself. BTW, love the massage!

1. CarPlay costs $300. I thought we got 1 year for free.
2. No clarity on how to reset trip odometer.
3. I was told that parking assist would not address my wife's fear about parking the G05 in our garage with her E70. (One must driver forward up a driveway on an incline). IT guy said it might work if we want to back the G05 into the garage but I need to practice in the open before taking that on.
4. No playlists were found from my iPX.
5. Gesture control configuring fell far short of expectation.
6. No weather widget could be found.
7. I sent an address from the Connected app, but the IT guy could not find this in the car. We were sitting in the car at the time
8. IT guy did not know about a list of voice commands.
9. Finance lady said I should not bother with $600 Ultimate Care since I may not need brakes in 36K. However, I have the M Sports brakes and think otherwise which I thought was a consensus here. Anyway, finance lady said these prices probably go up in Jan as they have been told that parts will cost more in Jan.
10. 3D view is the Germany image.
11. Sales and IT seemed stumped about ESA since they had an email from the first of 5 X5s in their system. It is like pulling teeth to get them to get after this.
12. I could not plug in a radar detector (Escort 360) in front of middle ports, but only got connected power from the rear port. I will eventually do a V1 hardwire but want a forward plug for my Uniden R3, the distance champion! Edited to say the R3 plug does work in the forward port!
13. Profiles are not in place and so steering intervention not disabled in my wife's key.
14. IT guy almost put my turnpike bar - I shared photo in the 'fronte license plate' thread of the kind used with motorcycles - in front of the ACC! Wow!
15. Put iPhone in charger and up comes Apple Pay.

To be continued next week after spouse eye surgery.

A lot of these are known issues like Apples inability to have their payment differentiate a payment terminal from the car.

Thank you.

I also just saw a new post where it is reported the latest software does remove the weather widget! Why or why? That was my most used widget in my F15.

For me it's super inaccurate so I never use it but I don't think it should be removed... Hopefully it's an error and comes back

Sounds like your BMW Genius didn't go a very good job.

1. CarPlay costs $300. I thought we got 1 year for free.
Yes you get a 1 year trial after that it is $85 per year. Who charged you $300?

2. No clarity on how to reset trip odometer.
Press and hold BC button

3. I was told that parking assist would not address my wife's fear about parking the G05 in our garage with her E70. (One must driver forward up a driveway on an incline). IT guy said it might work if we want to back the G05 into the garage but I need to practice in the open before taking that on.
Parking assistant is meant for parking lots.

4. No playlists were found from my iPX.

Are you using car play? that could be the reason

5. Gesture control configuring fell far short of expectation.
Can't help you there

6. No weather widget could be found.

Make sure to update apps and services.

7. I sent an address from the Connected app, but the IT guy could not find this in the car. We were sitting in the car at the time

See number 6

8. IT guy did not know about a list of voice commands.

There is no list, the car does natural language recognition with cloud processing like Siri does.

No need to if you are leasing. Unless you are taking the car to the track.

10. 3D view is the Germany image.

Make sure data privacy has 3d View enabled. You are seeing the sample image.

11. Sales and IT seemed stumped about ESA since they had an email from the first of 5 X5s in their system. It is like pulling teeth to get them to get after this.

This must be done and you must log on with the same info in your X5 for the connected app to work properly.

13. Profiles are not in place and so steering intervention not disabled in my wife's key.

You have to have a connected drive account for both parties.

15. Put iPhone in charger and up comes Apple Pay.

Known issue.

Thanks much, NH_F36

1. I was not charged $300. CarPlay was not activated in today's session which I blame on the IT guy.
2. I thought that might be the case but failed to test myself.
3. Is the IT guy right that if I backed the G05 into the garage that it would remember that path so my wife could use it when I have flown to some destination?
4. They could not start CarPlay but when going through the Media list there was no choice for playlists. I have seen others complain about this even when they have CarPlay.
5. I found a great video about gestures so I must return to that source to move forward.
6. Edited to say that I found your post in another thread showing how to restore the weather widget. Thank you!
8. I thought I saw a video with a list in the menu with suggested voice commands.
9. No lease and hope to keep long term. My primary test is an annual trip through the Smokeys and the hot driving that consumes 3-4K miles and like maneuvers near my home. Edited to reflect one of your posts elsewhere which reminded me that finance lady did mention that sensors were decisive when it came to replacing brake pads.
10. I need to find this setting.
15. I thought a solution surfaced at one point but it did not stay in my memory as I hoped the software upgrade would resolve such an issue.

Do you mind posting the link to the video you are referring to about gesture controls?

As they call them bmw genius. They really are not. My guy didn't know anything about the car besides how to turn on cold and hot cup holders. Waste of time. I told him we are done and left the dealer when I picked up my car.

This is the video I saw about the digital key and gestures. I thought Caroline's presentation like @NH_F36 was professional. Although this is not an X5, it is an iDrive 7.

As you will see in a later post, I got the weather widget back. However, this version only shows the current temp and possible rain. I wanted the layout from the F15 that showed three days running.

The weather app shows more detail if you tap the weather widget or say " Hey BMW show me the weather"

My ESA issue has been resolved and we are making some progress. I met briefly with a second IT guy that seemed to do okay.

However, I failed to ask and on my own after viewing videos do not see how to 'install' much less activate CarPlay. I am using an iPhone X 12.1.1

I went to Comm, then mobile devices and my iPhone was already paired but does not list CarPlay as an option.

When I go to Connected Services for my vehicle using a browser, I can see that CarPlay should be available to use.

Is there a video or must I deal with one of the dealer's IT people?

Once you got the ESA worked out and profile signed in, did you reboot iDrive? Press and hold the mute/volume knob for 30 seconds until the screen blanks. Once I did that after the ESA all the apps downloaded and everything started working, including CarPlay. It wasn't instant but took a minute after rebooting bc the cell service wasn't great.

So I did the reboot and still no CarPlay. I went back through all the menus and it is not there. I went again to BMW store for apps and that will not show me any app beyond those already installed.

Under communication settings select "connection type" and you will see the carplay option.

You are always right so not sure what I am doing wrong.

I went back to Com then the next menu is: Contacts, Telephone, BMW Assist, BMW messages, Mobile devices.

I have mentioned going through Mobile devices submenu trying to follow online videos but that has failed as well.

My online connected account shows CarPlay is active until 12/11/19.

While waiting at Chick Filet for curbside delivery, I had some time to work through the submenus. The end result is that now CarPlay works.

The missing link was a submenu where I had to allow an Internet connection then I could activate CarPlay. I did not write down all the steps and am disappointed that the BMW IT folk failed me on this point.

In any event, I then used Waze to finish my morning commute. My R3 works in the forward plug and I plan to do a V1 hardwire install late next week after tinting all the windows (including windshield and moon-roof).

I thought this video about voice commands had some value:

Has anyone noticed all the options like 'intelligent voice assistant' in the BMW Apps store?

I dont think i can use ANY of these options since I am in Germany. This sucks because it was one of the selling points my SA told me would be available here!

AS it is right now, even my center console (in my gauge area) is totally blank because they installed the US NAV maps, and that obviously doesn't work over here. I feel like i have a half-functioning vehicle
