Meh, it got even softer with a updated E class interior. A loaded Prestige Q8 is over $100k and it’s performance isn’t as good as a X5 40i. The Q8 and new GLE both have fake exhaust tips. That says it all. When you go up to the X5 50i, it’s on another level and will blow their doors off in performance and features.
Why do you need a car with 400+ hp when the maximum legal speed in your country is -- lets say -- lame?
Because speed limits are meaningless when traffic exceeds them constantly? Having power isn't always about going faster than the speed limit

Some people need to impress their neighbors and family. No other reason.
That's so dumb. You forgot penile compensation.

Sorry ...was that the reason why you bought a 50i?
I forget. Going 40i next time around tho...the 50i was fun...but totally senseless for my use.

Btw, I was largely agreeing with you. My first X5 was a 35i...test drove the 50i and thought it was a ton of fun...but the fuel efficiency sucked and I rarely get a chance to use the power.

I can't tell if you're being sarcastic or arrogant. Having a more powerful vehicle like the 50i can be useful for a variety of reasons: towing, pleasure (who doesn't love the sound of a V8), better power range for daily driving where merging sucks etc. This isn't a lifted 3/4ton pickup riding on 40in tires with enough light bars for a football stadium, that would fit tour description quite well.

I think we found the only German in the world that thinks that having a powerful engine is only about top speed...

Not sure who or what you are referring to. Unless physics is taught differently in Alaska, you will agree that having more horsepower definitely makes sense in an "enviroment" of higher speed, i.e. driving/passing on the Autobahn.
I was just wondering why the 50i is not being sold in Germany where 150 mph+ is no issue.

on the other hand, at about 7 bucks per gallon of gas here in Germany....

Yes, no argument there. However, rather elitist of you to question why anyone in another country would, as you say, "need a car with 400+ hp when the maximum legal speed in your country is -- lets say -- lame?"

Horsepower (and torque) have uses beyond only cruising at any legal speed limit, or lack thereof.

I lived in Germany for 4 years and loved driving there. Good road system, fantastic driving laws and driver education. But I would never look down on another country's speed limits as "lame". Even your country uses speed limits on the vast majority of roads.

Almost April! Don't see the headliner on the configurator yet. In the meantime, I put in an order for the Urus and replaced the X3 for an R8.

Urus seems expensive but it does give the SUV market some speed and I actually like the looks. But with the RSQ8 and X5 Competition package, I may have to reconsider.
