Temperature: 33° F
Humidity: 82%
Wind: Calm
Altitude: ~ 700 feet
Fuel: 93 octane (about 2/3 tank)
Driver weight: 215 pounds
Sport plus mode, S transmission mode

My best time was 4.33s (4.10s w/ 1' rollout). Other run's were 4.41s (4.23s w/ 1' rollout) and 4.55s (4.36s w/ 1' rollout). Weirdly enough, I was using my "left foot" launch control for the two quicker times instead of BMW's actual launch control. I was hoping for low 4s and it delivered.

What a beast. I was thinking BMW numbers were conservative. What’s more impressive is you are getting great launches consistently and with a lot of fuel(weight) in the tank. How many miles on your 50 and what size wheels??.

That’s outstanding with a fresh unbroken-in engine.
You will be faster when you get a bit more miles on the 4.4l TT. I bet at the 5k miles with under 1/4 tank of gas you may get below 4 seconds. I am gonna try with mine when the time comes.
Thanks for the initial report. Very impressive. I would like to know the weight of each of the M-Sport wheels (20, 21, 22). I suspect the 20s will be the lightest but we need to weigh them.

I’m doomed. I am taking my kids to Disney on a long family road trip ithis winter. I’ll never make the entire road trip without a speeding ticket.

I used Dragy. It was recommended to me on this forum and I thought it was great. Based on some reviews / comparisons, it looked to be very close to VBOX but for a fraction of the cost. It comes with magnetic strips to attach the GPS receiver to something metal but you don't actually need them. Just place the receiver on the speaker cover in the middle of the dash and the magnets from the speakers will hold it in place.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B077KKPMTB..._E6MeCbYNG4NTX

Edit: not that it really matters, but the device itself is magnetic so the provided sticky strips are if you want to mount it to something non-magnetic.

Thank you for posting this! It beats my X3 M40i by . 1s without breaking a sweat. I'll run a 1/4 mile once I get mine and break it in. I think it'll do a 12.4-12.5s based on the outgoing gens times

My X5 50i M-Sport is due next week but my dealer had a very closely equipped 50i M-Sport to demo extensively. I own fast cars so I tend to be critical more than most. To start off, if you haven’t driven one hard, it’s a beast. It really is.
BMW magaged to take the excellent ZF 8 speed and make it even better and optimized it for seamless performance. There is no discernible turbo lag at all. 0-60 mph feels fast but even more impressive is the endless torque that keeps going. 60-110mph feels just as fast and solidly planted and it keeps going. 12.4 1/4 mile is doable for sure.

Someone can run a 1/4mile and confirm How does it handle in the corners for such a big suv? Does your demo have the DHP?

I've driven both the regular 50i (no-DHP) and my own (w/DHP) and the difference is huge with the active roll reduction. Transitions and throwing the vehicle (all 5100 pounds of it) into a corner it stays flat and planted - particularly for such a huge SUV. The power delivery is super smooth, and 60-100 is really strong for passing on the highways.

I won't lie, it's stupid fun to drive.

My demo didn’t have DHP and it ran the twisties flat and in control. With speeds you will scare the crap out of your passengers. It feels like a 5 series sedan. No body roll noticeable. If the DHP is noticeably better, then BMW has set a new standard as the non DHP X5 50i was by far the best handling large SUV I have ever driven. The ride wasn’t rough either. The M exhaust sound is addictive and pushes you in to “loose you license ” territory before you know it.

What size wheels did it have? Yeah that's how I feel with my M40i, it's quick and has plenty of mid range torque. My wife hates when I take corners fast enough to throw the read end out if it wasn't AWD. At least in the X5 she can hang on in comfort

Stupid fun to drive, flat in the corners and luxorious is what I'm going for! Sounds like the X5 50i with DHP lives up to my expectations. I can't wait for mine even though I won't see it for 3 says right after pick up (PPF + ceramic and tint need to get done)

20” M-Sport. They sold,me on the size for durability as well as looks here in the North East on a performance SUV. Roads around Philly are deplorable. If I lived in warmer weather then the 21-22” would work. Even my summer rides don’t go above 20” wheels here in Pa.

We need to start a wheel weight chart sticky for the new X5.

I used to live in PA so I understand. Roads by me are no better but I'm still running 21's because no Winters are needed. PA roads generally suck, especially in the Philly area.

Can you use the actual launch control for a run with one press of the DSC button?

Not 100% clear on the question, but I did a run with launch control and it was the slowest time listed above. Procedure is one push of the DSC button (so it's in Traction mode), transmission lever in S mode, mash brake, mash gas, lift brake and you're off. Car needs to be at temp and you need to have driven something like 5-6 miles.

So how did you launch it without launch control showing as active? Yes that's what I meant, I thought you didn't use the BMW launch control at all. I've tried launching with DSC fully off but I usually end up spinning all 4 wheels on my M40i

Pretty simple. I just did the following — mash brake, mash gas, lift brake. DSC fully on, sport plus mode and S transmission. Probably not great for the car, but I'm not going to be doing this a lot and I found that the revs got higher initially by doing this vs. BMW launch control. I suspect that resulted in the better times because the car just felt like it took off quicker.

I bet I can get it in the 4.1s to 4.2s range (not accounting for the rollout) with less gas. Close to empty would save 70 lbs. Also, forgot to take the car seats out of the back seat so that added another 35-40 lbs. I just can't see going much lower than that totally stock.

Thank you for this, I'll give it a go when mine comes after break in too. It would be cool to have an OP tracking the times to see how people compare overall.
