Car wash debacle
Anyone else go into panic mode at the drive thru car wash yet when you can't figure out how to get the car back into drive from neutral?
I thought I was gonna cause a pile up of cars but the car wash alarm sounded and shut itself down. Was about to get out and push the damn thing but finally figured out you have to have foot on the brake lmao I'm an idiot!!

I've never seen a no touch carwash where you need to be in neutral.

I did my first wash yesterday - automated soft cloth wash, and had no issues. Yes, I read the manual first and got it into neutral the first time, and had no issues getting it into drive after I was done.
Things I checked beforehand: - That the wheel track was wide enough for the 315's out back - They the track wasn't too high that it would contact the wheels (21") Folded in the mirrors and let it rip. Then I dried it off with exotic microfiber towels made only in the finest of places. Nah, seriously, it's a truck, idgaf. The only issue was the RFID tag they use couldn't be read through the windshield so they gave it to me on a card to hold up when I show up. Yes, I have a monthly membership, and wash 2-3 times a week. |

So do you still have to wipe the car or does the foam clean off all the grime without wiping it?

I'll be using a car wash - nice touchless one nearby. I wave off the towel wash drying guys because it just grinds dirt into the paint. Easy way to get the salt off during winters here. Anyone use the overhead "carwash view" cameras on their X5 yet? |

And I didn't turn off the car, that doesn't make sense to me - I only put it in neutral and it rolled just fine. And yes, I practiced neutral in the parking lot before going to the wash because I saw a guy in a new Panamera in front of me fail to get in neutral and cause the alarm to sound and stopped the wash line. |

The foam will take about 95% of it off. You need to get a good microfiber glove or towels, multiple. Always change them during the wash and machine wash them when done. I love my foam canon, if you were local you could come give it a go.

I am still recovering from foot surgery and my mobility is too limited to do a wash myself.
The car looked great at last Tuesday's delivery but it rained all day Thursday. With my F15, I used a local franchise called Red Carpet that did okay but they have brushes. Remind me of the primary risks of this type of mechanism. There is a touchless that I have used before but do not remember being overly impressed. In any case, I always worried about the 20s in my F15 - even went through the videotape at at least 2 places - so how do I know all will be well with my 21s on the G05 at a given vendor with no staff to engage?

That is helpful. Thank you.
My F15 was mineral white, but the G05 is black sapphire so I must change course.

They don't clean very well, everything is sprayed and dried not physical things touch the car except for water+chemicals and air

You definitely need to get out and dry quickly with the micro fiber cloths. If the car is just dusty they are great if it's filthy not so great.

My local touch-free at the BP doesn't have tracks and the X5 lost its mind when the wash started. All of the proximity sensors went crazy as I had parking sensors on to pull in straight. I'm reluctant to take mine to an Autobell automatic wash or the likes with the tracks due to the Orbit Grey 21" wheels. I don't trust them not to get curbed/scratched.
