Aggressive Keyless Central-Locking Function

I have my key configured to unlock/lock my door when I approach/leave the the car. Love it, works great. To keep it unlocked while in my garage and to prevent it from unlocking/locking whenever I walk past it I started to leave my key in the car but it still locks at some point after I walk away... with the key in it. How do I keep the auto-lock feature yet tell my car it's ok to leave it unlocked while I'm not in it?

if you enabled "lock after a few minutes", maybe try disabling that. I just find it odd that the vehicle locks when the fob is inside. mine did that at the detailers. it was in the front cup holder, but get this: I never had any auto lock settings enabled!

I do have that option enabled. I have to believe that will stop the unintended locking. I don't understand the logic of locking the car with the key in it other than maybe the car doesn't sense the key after a while.

How did you get the car unlocked at the detailers? Just wondering this in case my key accidentally falls out my pocket and I exit the vehicle while, it locks and then what??

Digital Key on your phone.
BMW key card you may keep in your wallet.
other key fob

The key will shut off after some time, I think two minutes, if it is not moving.

You can use the app to open the doors as well.

all valid options though:
• Digital Key is only an option for iPhone users.
• not everyone has a key card (i didn't even know about the key card until 2 months later when my dealer was cleaning out his desk after resigning!)

I wasn't sure if everyone got that card. The Genius dude gave it to me when I picked up my car. It has ///M on it

I think this is what it is.

The key switches off as a safety measure after some time. So probably the car isn't detecting the key like you mentioned. And that's why it can lock with the key inside.

I also have the locking after some time enabled.

My key is almost always in my pocket and if it happens I have the card in my wallet and I can unlock with my phone.
