Spare tire compartment lockdown nut?

My X5 didn’t come with spare , not that I really need one but was thinking of installing one of those subwoofers that you can bolt down to the spare tire locknut. Does anyone know if the nut is there under the cover? Trying not to take the cover to check if someone has already done it.

Well, you didn't say which X5 model you have. Pre LCI, LCI, PHEV??? Mine (pre LCI 40i) didn't come with a spare either and there is no nut or even a place to screw one on, nothing, zilch is under the rear cargo floor to hold anything down. Here's a pic, all that was there was a front plastic license plate holder. In the case of my spare, it fills that area but if your sub doesn't and its slippery plastic, you'll have to invent some sort of tie down so it doesn't slam front to back, right to left. Velcro, etc.

Yeah that what mine looks like. I was checking for X5M. I wouldn’t be asking for PHEV, there isn’t much room there at all as the battery is taking all the space

I don’t think pre or post LCI matters. As OP pointed out, there is no room in the hybrid.

Btw I was referring under the felt cover of the nut was still there. I got the part when you lift the trunk cover.

Oh, you mean under the gray covering that you see in my pic where the plastic license plate holder is sitting? Hmmm, I've never removed that cover. When I look at the floor pan pic for a pre LCI 40i, I don't see a feature that would resemble a nut but here, have a look. Looks like #4 is under the battery. There is a feature towards the rear of #1 that resembles a round embossed donut, it appears to have three holes in it. Maybe one is tapped whereby you could screw in what used to be the threaded post that went up the center of the spare tire wheel and then the black plastic cap screwed onto the top of it and that held the spare tire in place.

Yeah under that. Hmmm seems like I might have to spend an hour this weekend and remove it to check.

Should only take 10 minutes to pull the gray covering up. Just pop up the plastic two piece buttons with a pry tool. You may not even have to remove all the buttons in order to see what you're looking for.

I'm not sure if the X5M is the same, but from RealOEM and looking at my 40iX, there are 3 different floor liners. One as shown above. One for cars with the spare tire. And one for cars with the luggage compartment package. There's also an insert associated with the tire hold-down. (Item #3 in the attached image.)

The spare tire Kit includes this bolt (No. 9 in the picture) to fix it on that receptacle on the trunk's floor. The NUT should be there.

Please let us know what you find, for I am also planning on getting the spare tire kit.

I realize OP's use case is different. But I ordered the spare and didn't bother with the nut. I mean, where's it going to go?!

The spare could bounce up & down over rough pavements...which could make bumping noises. Just a thought.

Its the same with the battery hold down clamps. Many owners will secure the battery from moving back and forth...but the battery could also move up and down if the hold down clamp isn't secured over the foot of the battery.

Worse, during a serious accident, it could turn into a bouncing projectile in the interior of the car. Still, I think that's a VERY low risk as long as the back seats are up and the spare is under the cargo cover. Proving this point, I have my daughter driving around with a space-saver spare in the rear lower compartment of her X1. <knocks on wood and says silent prayer>
