Take it back to them and have them fix it. They screwed something up during the process if it's misaligned now.

I wouldn't have left the dealership, I am very OCD about having the steering wheel perfectly aligned, well maybe by 0.5º off

Yeah I was pissed. I picked up the car right before they closed and I was in the parking lot for another 30mins before actually driving the car away to notice it. I ended up going to a local shop by me getting another alignment and it fixed the issue. Steering wheel is perfectly straight again. Sucks it's 150 bucks I shouldn't have to spend but my time is worth more than that since it's a 1.5 hour drive each way to my dealer. I'm still going to bitch to my SA on Monday about it.

For anyone that will need a new steering column make sure to mention an alignment is REQUIRED!

Thanks for sharing your experience with us. Do you have any insight into how many panels and such had to be removed on the interior for access? Is extensive?

I don't know but it should be straight forward. I didn't notice any issues with my interior after the swap where things weren't put back together correctly or damaged.

Sorry to hear you had such a crappy result. Agreed, you shouldn’t have had to align it elsewhere. In my case, I asked that they do an alignment when they replaced it, as my steering wheel wasn’t quite straight from the factory. (I had the column replaced at about 3,200 miles.)

My 2022 45e has developed a similar issue, just in the past few days. This is a low grinding noise coming from the steering column. Unlike other posted reports, it happens ONLY when I start the car and the wheel adjusts to driving position. It's quiet as a mouse while driving and makes no sound when the car is turned off.

I sent my car to service for repair last week. It took them 1 week to get back to me. According to the shop foreman, " Observed noise and determined the firewall bearing support of the steering column intermediate shaft may be causing the noise. Using a stethoscope was able to pinpoint the noise at the firewall bearing from the inside and from the engine bay. When duplicating the noise, a creak can be felt on the boot of the insulation around the support bearing. Attempted to lubricate the bearing and the noise didn't go away. Replaced the middle section of the steering shaft including the bearing. Road tested and noise did not return."

I picked up the car yesterday and drove around 30 min. The noise seems still there but not as loud as before. Will drive more in next couple days and see if the noise would go away. If still having the same noise, I will contact the service department again.

Will keep you posted.
JSup- any update to the issue? Mine is having the same issue (2022 X5 40i) and thinking of taking to the centre

Same issue with my X6 40i MY23 on cold start up.Just few steering wheel turns to the left/right after engine start and its quiet as mouse For me it look like some dry steering column rubber cover needs to be lubricated.
