LCI rear headlights in a pre facelift.

I like the rear lights on a LCI model.
Looks like shape and dimensions are like on the pre facelift model so maybe they could be easily swapped?
Does anyone have more info about it?

+1 Was thinking of swapping the LCI tail lights and LCI side vents to my pre LCI model. They seem to be retrofit.

This was asked on the main page as well. Below is my reply on that thread:

Dimensions should be same, as most LCI models the tail light dimension are the same (G30, G07, etc). In fact, the parts are already available online for those who might want to order them, looks like total cost would be around $1200.

Driver Side Outer Light - 63215A11EC5
Passenger Side Outer Light - 63215A11EC6
Driver Side Inner (tailgate) Light - 63215A11ED1
Passenger Side Inner (tailgate) Light - 63215A11ED2

The bigger challenge is that I'm not sure if wiring diagrams for the LCI are available yet, as in the past on LCI models the wiring sometimes changes. The other concern is that there were a couple of people who tried to retrofit the LCI X7 headlights, and it was discovered that those LCI taillights actually have built-in modules which require coding. The problem there is that BMW has (for the time being) locked out certain coding on modules from newer models. So it could be that no coding would be needed, or possible that both the existing BDC and/or the new LCI taillights would require coding which may or may not be doable.

Overall shape is the same on both models IMO, they were very clever on keeping the original tail light shape using a "flat profile" in black colored plastic giving a new 3D look, but looking closely, both follow the same body "cuts" on trunk and rear quarter panel. Here a poor picture comparison to show what I mean (sorry for my bad english explaining)

I’m getting my LCI delivered in a month and will replace the EU tail lights on.

If anyone is interested to take the LCI tail lights off me, PM me :-)

It will be an interesting test to replace with LCI model and get the amber lights.

Thanks for that info. Hmm yes that’s high likely that they would have modules if X7 LCI has.

Are those reference for US or EU? I’m looking for the EU ones.

Copy that They should work on the pre-LCI's but would most definitely require some coding to have the same animation as it being installed on an LCI.

The LCI tail lights blink differently now. I think they pulse on and off. That part may not be compatible with the pre-LCI models.

There were some discussion in this thread. Not looking good honestly.

https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ighlight=favor

I've also started seeing some of the LCI lights in the flesh and I can't say I like them better. Different yes but better... not really. The fade in and out actually looks cheap compared to Audi. Both my co worker and my wife had the same reaction when they saw a passing LCI X5 had its turn signals on.

Agreed the pulse light effect looks really bad in person on the road. Actually looks like something is broken and they don’t illuminate nearly bright enough when indicating. I have to say Audi really is king on tail lights and the whay they indicate/light up.

I'm starting to see some LCI shaped taillights modded for Pre-LCI from China. They say it's plug and play.

https://www.ebay.com/itm/35501848333...Bk9SR4q0gcGOYw

Anyone give it a go?

I ordered set back in September but seller couldn’t deliver, they kept giving me further dates until I finally cancelled.
At this point I’m not sure if they actually have working product.

I ordered the Bayoptiks set which is most likey the same ones being sold all over ebay. I figure paying slightly more by going with a US vendor gives me some protection from fraud and have warranty if these fail.

Been about a week and nothing has shipped yet even though they told me it was "in stock". Not off to a great start already but I'll keep everyone posted.

I actually hope that it doesn't pulse on and off like the LCI because i find it looking cheap and doesn't look like its LEDs when it does that.
