NFC-compatible- when will they add iPhone

Big disappointment learning that my iPhone will not work with my Brand New Car. Came accross an article from last summer 2018 that states that BMW was going to have this on the 2019 vehicles. Does anybody know the status of this happening and will it eventually work on iPhone's

Apple, Audi, BMW agree on standard for using smartphones as car keys
The Connected Car Consortium is trying to standardizing NFC technology that would let you drive your car without a traditional key fob.

What is the hold up? BMW or Apple?

Consensus is that it is Apple not allowing access to NFC at this time. Given that android phones can use this feature and the NFC card comes with the car, I would believe that the consensus is accurate.

Apple being all about privacy, except for their apps sending your data (WSJ article), they are probably trying to be more cautious than you.

Garage List
I am suspecting this will be available with iOS 13 this fall. We might even find out in a few hours after today's keynote

I have complained about this from the beginning (Dec 18) even asking about using our iWatches.

But now I learn that they will charge us for the flimsy card we were given - some later than others - so one cannot help but wonder what fee BMW will charge for our iPhones if and when we get clearance from Apple.

I have not heard or seen anything on that, where did you see that? I know that the digital keys for smart phones is a subscription services but thought the card was free.

I have been checking the BMW Connected Drive quite often looking at map updates and the like.

I noticed that the subscription for the digital card was only good for one year from the date of purchase.

Perhaps I have this wrong, but I do not have time to get a screenshot tonight.

I think you are seeing the digital key and not the card.

I see the text is specific about a smartphone, but do you believe that our digital cards have no limitation considering all the other rules?

Note that if they stick with announced dates, those using iPhones will get may 10 day free if we are lucky.

I have seen or heard nothing that would lead me to believe that the key card needs a subscription.

We have to get Apple going, BMW has no control over what they do.

It is probably coming soon considering yesterday's WWDC updates.

I just received a survey from BMW and I blasted them on the fact that it was not a disclosed feature having a fee when I purchased the car. It’s disappointing to spend that kind of money and not get this on the car. It should have the technology in the vehicle.
You get that feature free with Audi, Honda, GM, Ford, it should be part of the package for BMW

I will ask tomorrow when my 2019 goes in, but I expect to get a question mark in response.

I had this on my list for the SA and his response was that it was Apple at fault. He said BMW was working toward a solution but no notion of any ETA.

Likely an Apple issue. Why can't we get an update from Apple on the subject?

BMW needs to update the app. Apple opened its NFC API for developers to implement such functionality in iOS 13.
