The dealer agreed on my opinion of the quality. This one was one of the worst they had received.

Consider yourself very fortunate to have such an understanding and cooperative dealer. Whoever they sent it to did a nice job!

No idea yet. Car still at the dealer. Only started paperwork to get the license plate today. I would have rejected the car if the wrinkles issue was not taken care of.

If you could do an initial review of the 45e as it’s own thread, we will appreciate

I'm wondering if the rear seats with heating elements have been worse for wrinkling than the ones without heating elements installed.

It would be great if BMW paid for it as it would serve as a bit of direct feedback but my guess is your dealer probably foot the bill as part of the profit they made by selling the car. Either way, I was quite impressed and can only dream that my dealer will act in this way if/when the time comes.

Recent 2020 X6 delivery seems to not have rear seat wrinkles.

The wrinkles are most prominent on the seat backs, all I can really see in your pic are the seat bottoms. Looks like Black Full Merino Leather.

That's obviously defective since wrinkles are intentional. (sarcasm, for those not keeping score).

I think you may be on to something..... and I have the same theory.

Personally, I don't think the wrinkles look "that" bad. I wouldn't refuse a vehicle because of them. However, there is no doubt in my mind that it's absolutely not "intentional".

Rear seat heaters are an extremely common, and extremely cheap option... which is why almost everyone gets them. Incidentally, that might explain why every so often, I come across pictures of rear seats that don't seem to be affected.

Maybe the few that aren't affected are the few that don't have rear seat heaters?

I ordered my M50i without rear seat heaters. My kids would just mess with the buttons and probably break them anyway, so based upon the pictures in this thread, I opted NOT to fit my car with them.

My theory... is that the seats are made (which is likely how they passed QC), and then afterward, something in BMW manufacturing process requires that they be "stretched" somehow to install seat heaters afterward. Perhaps the leather was still warm when they were stretched? I don't know.... but to me, it makes sense.

I've done enough restorations to know that when you remove, bend, or contort a leather seat.... it never looks quite the same when you put it back in. That's what this looks like to me.

My car is slotted to be built in mid December.... and delivered late January..... I'll know then.

I'm not sure if this was addressed in the 30+ previous pages, but the wrinkling (to a certain extent) was not a manufacturing defect. In the past, a big complaint with clients was the seats weren't "cushy" enough. One of the main culprits in this case was the leather being too tight, and acting as a hammock, not allowing the occupants to reach the foam layers beneath the leather. By loosening the leather, it greatly improves the comfort. And for anyone going from an F15 to G05 multi-contour seats can testify to the vast improvement in comfort over long trips.
(This was explained to me by a high level employee at the Spartanburg plant at a VIP event in SC)
Also, IMO, the leather is going to stretch and do weird things over time anyway, and the extra material used (that's why there's wrinkles right?) may help the seats age more gracefully.

It probably is just the angle and lighting. Every 2020 X6 on Cars.com that has pictures of the back seat has the "wrinkles". A couple of them:

If you choose to have the bench seat up front then you get the wrinkles.

Heated rear seats, Full Merino Leather, multi-contour, late Sep build. Pretty minimal "wrinkles." Same for our other 40i.

Those are totally acceptable in my opinion on a new car. Play the lottery.

From what I have seen, most seats look similar to those. I believe people tend to think the majority of them have major wrinkles but in reality from looking at pictures and people’s posts that is not the case with either the 2019’s or 2020’s.

And in fact in line with our Q7s, which had similar pleating - minimal, but some. I assumed it was because of the nature of a natural covering. My GX 460s had seats very similar to these (when I saw the photo I could've sworn they really were mine ).

Wrinklegate is not over. I have a 40i xLine as a dealer loaner while mine is getting software update. This is clearly a just-off-the-truck MY2020, had 350km on it when I picked it up. I wouldn't be on this forum if mine had come in like that, that's for sure.
