ASS Coding
Has anyone been successful getting their dealer to change the coding on the automatic start stop to remember the last setting so you don't have to turn it off every time the vehicle is started?

Your dealer won't do this but you can do it yourself using this app and a Bluetooth OBD adapter:

Thanks, I'll give it a shot. Any recommendation on an adapter to purchase? Source?

Some adapters are more stable than others and needed for advanced coding (when it EVENTUALLY becomes possible). I recommend the UniCarSys adapter. If you search the forum you will find a wealth of discussion related to coding. |

Can I ask what the issue is with the Stop/Start with the G05? I cannot say I even notice it with this crazy quiet/smooth engine? My old diesel you really could but this I have to strain and there is no vibration etc. Seems no bad thing to stop the engine running when idle?

Not a big issue but I would prefer that it stayed at its previous setting instead of defaulting to on.

The G series may be more immune to this due to the dual battery design, but we don't have enough data yet on this... I also don't like that the oil drips off the bearings when off that BMW added a teflon like layer on the crankshaft bearings. Oil will always be a superior lubricant vs any solid. Your starter also takes a big brunt of this. Hybrids don't have as much as an issue as they usually have huge starters that are integrated into flywheels like the 530e. The regular B58 starter looks like a standard issue one Long story short: if you lease, who cares and leave ASS on, if it's a purchase, kill the A.S.S.

I have this working. It's really nice to not have to deal with it. It's a stupid feature. Light stays on for a bit after vehicle exit and ultimately goes out. This is normal/expected.

I guess folks can ask the dealership and see if they can disable it.
I recall this feature came with F series model in late 2011, after few months BMW dealer started to disable this ... so ASS would be switched off by default and you can enable it if you like.. It was so annoying on my F10, i had it coded to disable by default... I coded many other features in my F10. (some of which are now being offered through iDrive in G05). Here are some that I coded on my F10 using Esys Auto Start-Stop function to start as last used Auto Start-Stop OFF by default Turn off power (radio and iDrive) when opening door Unlock doors when engine is stopped (doors unlock linked to doors automatically locked by iDrive) Enable key fob and driver side door handle to fold mirrors* and close windows and moon roof Code the angle of the passenger side mirror when the car is put into reverse Opening doors will not interrupt window roll up Increasing sensitivity of the wipers, but not the speed Transfer telephone ringtone to the car Increase CIC stored addresses/messages from 25 to 50 Enable key fob and driver side door handle to close the trunk Enable Pressure and Temperature Readings to the TPMS Screen Disable iDrive legal disclaimer Disable Rear and Side view camera legal disclaimer A/C to remeber to stay off when you powered it off last time you turn off the car key Enable Adaptive Brake Lights |

Glad you noticed. When I started it I wondered if the moderator would change it. We all need a little levity each day.

If they can't do it.. i'll do it myself. I have coded my F10 many times using E-sys. Everytime dealer did a software update i would loose my coding and i had to do it all again. It took less than 15 min to do the entire coding for the features that I listed above. For the folks in NJ area or around I'll offer to do this free once I have tried and tested that it works on my X5. |
