Thank you to ALL who responded.

I got it to work, but only with the driver door closed. I most likely had the driver door open when it would not function for me.

Mystery solved!

I finally got it to work yesterday, but yes it was a while before I realized it was only partially closed. I’m sure the car won’t let you move if it is partially open.

So weird, it should close all the way. My highlander does that ... it doesn’t stop midstream if you release the button!

The manual has instructions for setting up the remote functions. I haven’t changed any of the standard settings on my remote, but I would look at this first, before changing code.

No, I had to hold it, and when I released it stopped the closing process and left it partially closed. Sheesh.

At first, I thought I couldn't close mine from the inside button by the driver, but I had my key in my door handle pocket and my door was open.
Yes, the door being open was the ticket. Worked when I tried again with the door closed. Not the best design. Maybe this will be fixed in a future update.

Genius probably showed this to me, it just didn’t stick. I don’t mind figuring things out, but I always expect things to work similarly to my Highlander. In this case, it doesn’t.

Thanks!

Yeah, that's just weird. Mine works with the switch with the door opened or closed from the switch as long as it's in park and the key is inside the car.

And as long as you are pulling the switch up and not pushing down, I think that was the key to her situation.

It works fine with the door open or closed, just have to have the key detected by the car and PULL the gate open/close switch rather than press it.

Dumb question. Is Bimmercode a code that you enter into iDrive to activate certain functions?

I’m going to pick up mine in late July or early August so Im preparing a list of things to check at delivery.

I can’t close the trunk via key fob. In the US from what I understand it isn’t an option.

No, Bimmercode is an app that you use with a purchased OBDII interface plugged into your vehicle.

I can, and I’m in the US.
I think the trick is to hold it down.

The tailgate button on the fob. I’ll have to try it again and get back to you, but I was able to close my tailgate with the key when the door button didn’t work.

Thanks. Does the use of bimmercode create any issues with the car’s warranty? Can BMW program those functions for you, if you requested, since they are just based on the odbII interface?

As far as I know, these are settings that can be adjusted with no adverse impact to warranty. If you have any concerns, you can change them back to their defaults before taking the vehicle in for service.

BMW will NOT program any settings for you other than to update your ECU firmware when new revisions become available. There are, however, some coders on the forums that do this as a for-fee service. You may want to check out the "iDrive, Audio, Phone, Electronics, Software, Coding" forum.

I don't believe our key fobs will allow the closing of the rear gate. Before going through the iDrive menus this morning (to no avail), I pressed and held the rear gate button but no joy.

You are correct. I tried it today- the key will open, but not close the cargo.

However, you can program the key fob with settings on iDrive. I haven’t looked to see what is available, but I know you can change some of them. Maybe that capability is one of them.
