So the earliest delivery for me will be the 22nd after the driving test if it shows up at the dealer early.

That's a noble reason to wait on picking your new car up, good on you! Worse comes to worse, can't you rent a corolla or something for the day if need be?

Wait, I think I can help: How about this; call your dealer up and say:

"Hey friendly CA, can you reach out to the factory and tell them they can take their sweet time on finishing up mine. Just focus on getting VIN ___5493 ready for performance center pickup on the 30th of this month. It takes a village."

haha, if it worked that way I would be all for helping you out. it will be a test of my patience to wait for it. but in a way it also allows me to get the PPF scheduled for the day after so I guess it works out.

Ive thought about the rental car route but he is not the best at parking and I have been coaching him on the weekends to get him comfortable in my car with that, so an extra few days wait wont kill me and it may just be enough for him to actually pass on the first try.

My completion date initially was 8/4, but last week it changed to 8/6. 8/6 is also what you see if you look up the VIN. I'm still "Awaiting a carrier assignment"

Which color? A true individual (which I didn't think they were doing yet in SC), or a P-1 color? If a P-1 that should have no impact on a build delay, but it's possible your allocation just wasn't scheduled for the first build week of MY2020's.

Did you ever receive a production # and build week, or check with the 1-800# for an estimated completion date?
True individual. Ametrin. I just called and system said scheduled for production with no estimated completion date.

The plant from Atlanta is only a few hours away, so probably why it got to the dealer that fast, all truck transport. I have not been called yet about it, so there may still be a hold on it and cant be sold yet. If it is indeed at the dealer, I may go see it in the next few days.

Ametrin Metallic is a P1 individual as listed in the ordering guide, and should not impact your slotted allocations build week. A full individual car is one that would be requiring one-off approvals from BMWNA - and those can definitely impact slotted build week versus reality.

I'm of the opinion that your allocation was likely for a post week 32 build slot from the beginning. In that case, it would make sense to not see any estimated completion date yet. If this was a build week 33 allocation, you should be seeing an estimated completion date by this Saturday using the My Garage.

At any point did your CA advise what week the build slot you purchased was for?

By the way - I know, you and I both - but I'm very interested to see photos of this one when you get it. It's a great color, and you made a great choice!

WHAT!! Why/how/when/huh?

I've gotten an email from my CA this morning with this as the punchline - on a forwarded email from the Performance Center:
“Every year EPA and CARB Certifications, which are issued by the government, must be obtained for every new model year vehicle and BMW NA must receive those certifications before a vehicle can be delivered to a customer. An Engineering Data hold as well as a Release hold will be placed on this vehicle once it reaches production status 150 (see example shown below). Neither of those holds will not be removed until BMW NA receives the necessary certifications from the appropriate government agencies.

Before we can provide a tentative delivery date for Mr. XXXXXXXX we must wait for both the Engineering Data and the Release holds to be removed from the vehicle. This vehicle will remain at the Vehicle Distribution Center (VDC) / Vehicle Processing Center (VPC) until the certifications have been received and both the Engineering Data hold and Release hold have been removed. This vehicle cannot be shipped to your BMW Retail Center or to the BMW Performance Center until both holds have been removed.”

I cannot believe the tracker is accurate, but either way this is all a good look for your needs Re: drivers test!

Until i get the call that its there, I wont know for sure. I have seen some on here say the tracker says its there but it really is not. If it is there, though I will snap a few pics when I go see it.

That is what I was like too. The dealer is not expecting it for another month. Until they dealer calls to say it is there, I am not holding my breath about it. The tracker, as you said, may be out of wack. The 2020s are not listed in the fueleconomy.gov site, so it probably is safe to say they are not yet certified and cant be sold to customers.

If it is there, I may check out a car rental place and see how much it would cost to get a car for a day so I can pick mine up. I am not the most patient person.

Great line of thought right here - maybe this showing up will complete the EPA hold puzzle

I think this may be the EPA certification search site. I dont see any BMW 2020 certifications since March, and who knows how timely this site is updated.

Did you have to go through your dealer to get build updates or is there a site those of us in the UK can use?

I’m quite jealous of those that can watch their build progress!

My X5 has been stuck in "Awaiting Carrier Assignment" since yesterday morning. Maybe today it will roll out of the lot. I'm in Central Florida so I would expect it to be at my dealer later in the day when that happens.
