I placed mine on 11/30 (Mine is at Production begins as well) and I was told that it would arrive in mid-January.

There's already a thread on production info:

He doesn't automatically get an extra build slot when he takes an order...he fills one he already has. So, how long it takes can depend a huge amount on whether your dealer has any slots, and when they are scheduled...

Production scheduled means the order has been placed and accepted. Started means they've ordered any parts necessary that aren't built in house. Once the VIN is assigned and the body started, it's only a day or two before it's done. It can sit waiting carrier for over a week, especially if it's around a holiday, as the truckers like time off, too!

If you lived close to the plant, and your dealer had a slot scheduled very soon, it could all be done in a few weeks. If he doesn't have any near-term slots, unless he can trade one with another dealer, it could be many months. If things were slacking off, BMW might assign an 'extra' one to him for a new sale.

Accepting the order has nothing to do with when it will actually be built...it is a confirmed reservation into the system or production queue. When it gets built is what build slot your dealer has open, and that could be many months away. BMW accepting an order does not just get added to the back of the queue...it gets put into the dealer's allocation, and he knows what slots he has open. It could get delayed if your order has a parts backlog, but normally, that doesn't happen. COVID-19 delayed things earlier on, and may again if things get out of hand, so in reality, all bets are off. It's not a confirmed, fixed, date or timeline.

COVID is locking things down everywhere right now. Things are highly in flux. If it's a true special order, there's no way it will be delivered Dec. 15 if it was placed Dec. 1. If a dealer was just changing the specs of a stock car he already had ordered, it would have been too late to modify anything by then.

And yes, "order" means nothing really. If it's the "Production Begins" 150 status, then that means it's locked down. Even then, 2 weeks from then is not possible. Mine didn't have the crazy COVID related delays from the beginning of the year, and it still sat at the "Production Begins" status for at least over a week. Chicago still requires the train portion of transit so that alone is gonna give you weeks of delays.

Basically, your dealer can give you an approximate timeline but it's still only a rough estimate.

Keep us updated. It be very interesting news, and helpful data to use as comparisons, if it will arrive at the dealer in 2 weeks from 150 status.

We have had a few folks whose build only took around two weeks until delivery. I believe they were down South though so shipping time was minimal.

There are multiple variables including how the Dealer is getting the car. Mine popped out on 11/30 and was in Denver on 12/3. Pretty darn fast.

I suspect they had a load headed to Denver so I got lucky.

Yes, I believe they have regularly scheduled shipments so it depends on where you fall in the cycle. Mine took a little over a week to get to Loveland. Of course that was just the shipping time. The OP is talking about order to delivery in two weeks in Chicago.

Order is not as relevant as the Dealer's Production Slot. Depending on when the Slot is locked, it could be very, very fast.....In my case, I ordered in Mid-October and the slot I got was week of 11/30.

Yes, that is exactly what we have been discussing. Many folks are under the impression there is a specific waiting period which is not the case. It all depends on if the dealer has an allocation and when it is.

If you called the number and it said 12/15, that is the estimated completion date for your build, not the delivery date. It will then need to be shipped to your dealer, which takes a few days to weeks depending on where you live and how soon it leaves the factory.

Looks like you just hit Status 150, so your build is now locked, and they will start making it probably next week.

In my case, the 800 number was accurate, they started on 12/3 and it was finished on 12/4 just like the estimated production date said.

Yeah, this is to Chicago so it should involve rail transport. It's not one of those "local" deliveries straight from the factory.

Still, I'd like an update. I mean, I guess it's theoretically possible that COVID has lowered demand for shipping so that things are moving faster. However, I would think that's highly unlikely as it's the holiday season, snow is here, and it really should be a peak time where demand is up. But, anything's possible I guess.

The assembly/production facility only makes certain parts in house on site...production begins just means they've ordered all of the parts necessary for it to be built, not that it is actually on the production line itself. WHen you see a VIN assigned and the body built, it's close. From there, it's usually often only a few days before it's ready to ship. FWIW, mine sat awaiting carrier release at the factory lot for over a week before it left. Then, the estimated delivery date to the dealer was off (it was a day early).

The VIN being assigned is early in the process, I think when it hits 150 status. It could be quite a few weeks until it is actually built. Mine was about a month between being assigned a VIN and being built.

Mine stayed at 150 status for quite some time as well. I can't remember if it was a month exactly, but it was pretty long. The actual build process went super quick. Like several steps at a time so I can tell the website isn't real time.

My build is due to complete 12/19 (we'll see). According to dealer, Spartanburg factory shuts down 12/22 for the holidays? Not certain if others have heard the same or can confirm. That's razor thin as far as taking delivery before year end. I'm located less than 3 hours from factory. Maybe that will help to align transport. But then again, always the risk when ordering anything during holidays...

My order was placed on 11/30 and I was told that my build would arrive in late December or mid-January, but it looks like it's arriving sooner than expected.

Mine just changed to "Dispatched from factory".

The 800 number indicates production on our X5 45e will be complete on 12/14, but as of this post it is still sitting at "production begins". I have heard it only takes a day or two to build the car, so I expect it will change sometime tomorrow (assuming the factory operates 7 days/week)? FYI, mine was ordered the week of Thanksgiving.

Try call the BMW production number and they would give you accurate status..
When I called they said the website is behind to be conservative
