So they told me to buy a Turbo Cord adapter, which is the same price as a wall charger. So at this point I think I'm going to buy a chargepoint or something similar.
Newbie, first post. Back on April 20 I received this info from my CA:

"I did some deeper research and as it turns out, currently the Flexible Fast Charger comes in two variants, 1.0 and 2.0. Currently the 2.0 is what is being provided in the X5 50e PHEV however the NEMA 14-50 adapter that I told you about before is only available and compatible with the 1.0 version. There is not currently a NEMA 14-50 adapter offered for the 2.0 version. Do not cancel your inbound home charger as it will be your fastest solution available to you every day and the flexible charger that comes with the car will be best for your travels. "

Given that, I've just completed my install of a hardwired EVSE made by Emporia capable of full 48Amp charging on a 60Amp circuit. $399. Easy install, seems to be a good unit, but does not handle two vehicles. emporiaenergydotcom or on Amazon. No affiliation whatsoever.

oh, so yours knew!

I liked my Emporía EVSE when I had it. I changed to JuiceBox due to incentives from my utility company and its ability to load share

I am kind of at the point where I am just going to buy a home EVSE since i don't have much confidence in the BMW setup/adapter

Wow!! someone knew!! All right, that makes sense. So either we charge at 110V or install a wall charger at this point. Shame on BMW for this.

I have reached out to my dealer as well, but this just seems unbelievable. BMW does not have a level 2 charging adaptor for the 2.0 Fast Charger? Are there any aftermarket options? So right now the only option is to buy an EVSE we want level 2 charging at home with our 50e?

So I did install the 14-50 outlet and tried the level 2 adapter with the flex fast charger and it does not charge. It gives an error message. I'm assuming the dealer should refund the cost for the incompatible adapter. Will there be a compatible charger ? Is my only option to buy a level 2 EVSE at this time. This will make the flex fast charger redundant. Why would BMW do thi ? Im sure there will be some correction at some point.

I just picked up my x5 50e. I want to charge my car during off peak hours, but in order to do that, they system requires that you set a daily departure time and conditioning. I'm retired and don't have a regular departure schedule. Every day is different. Some days I don't go anywhere. Any suggestions on how to set my system would be appreciated.

I agree. Its a little hard to believe there is a "Flexible" and "Fast" EVSE included this is actually neither fast or flexible without an adapter that works. I am leaning towards getting a Grizzl-E with no WiFi. Just want an EVSE that will charge without the other add-ons. No differential for rates and off peak charging where I am, so smart charger adds cost without much benefit IMO.

It likes a departure time so that it can override the off-peak charge window to ensure that it can fully charge the vehicle when you want to use it. If there's no departure time, it should just utilize that off-peak window.

If you have a smart EVSE, you could use its timer for that purpose, or if you have some home automation, put the EVSE on a timer.

iTomH is reporting that the 240v adapter he got from his dealer fits fine and charges his vehicle. I have asked him to post the part# in this thread.

It appears that the adapter for V1 is not the same as the one for V2...so, be careful. The same is probably true for the 16A adapter. In Europe (and the rest of the world) there appears to be as many as 15 or so different ones to accommodate different plugs and charging rates. My guess is that some of the extra configuration pins are what tell the main EVSE what pilot signal to develop so it doesn't overload the circuit it's plugged into. There's a bunch more pins than needed for just power in the adapter.

Thank you posting the pictures iTomH. I hope this is the answer we have been waiting for. However, when I search the BMW parts store and the OEM sites it does not show that part number and I cannot find it on any of them. I reached out to the parts guy at my dealership so I will see what he says and report back.

That is a good sign that you can't find it, likely means that is a new part so maybe things are looking up.

Part # shows up here, but no specifics on the website so not sure it is right.

Just heard back from the parts manager at my dealership. He found the part number but said there are currently none in the US. They are just arriving to Germany so he is ordering some from there. Like TurtleBoy said this may indicate it is a new part and should be arriving in US soon.

I ordered from here this morning. Order confirmed, but no ship date. Will see - i looked and they do not have a restocking fee if it does not work, so worst case am out S&H.

I ordered as well so we will see. However at $200+ for the adaptor I might spend a little more and just go with a GRIZZL-E dedicated wall unit. Undecided.

getBMWparts is the parts department of an upstanding dealership from Maryland

there’s also Brit from a California-based parts dealership (forget the name here) who offers forum members discounts
