45e Air Con deactivated message
First time this happened to me - drove to destination in hybrid mode (after running out of electric juice). Parked with zero “—“ range shown. When I got back in and drove, was greeted with warm air and a message that said something about insufficient charge or too hot to run heat or air con and that I needed to charge or go for a short drive before climate control would be available. Drove a few minutes, message went away and AC kicked on. Not a huge deal but weird that this is the first time this is happened in more than one year of many similar trips. Perhaps just happened to park this time when the PHEV battery was particularly dead? Anyone else get this message?

I've only seen this once, and it was recently. If I'm very low on battery power, I try to remember to turn battery control on to bring it up before I expect to turn it off.

Will be interested to see if this happens again. Odd it happened to both of us recently. There really was nothing unique about my driving today - very similar to my normal routine.

a few have reported this in the FB group. bottom line: try not to let the electric gauge go down to - - - on days you’ll need AC or heat. instead of letting it go down and kick into Hybrid mode, I tend to hit Sport mode with around 3-miles remaining

Thanks for the replies. Pretty dumb of BMW to make it so we can’t just run car in hybrid mode and not worry about it. Will keep an eye on this and see if it happens again.

On a continuous trip, I've not noticed the inability to maintain HVAC...only if turning the vehicle off after the battery range got to zero, and then when restarting it. It then can take a few moments to get to the point where it can turn it back on again.
One thought on that...the logic may be that it expects you to plug it in after the trip and then, a low battery would not be an issue. |
