Cross compatibility interior X5 / X7
Hi everyone weird question but I’m on the hunt for another leather dash to replace the one of mine that’s peeling that BMW and the dealership refuse to replace. I have found a couple Sensafin ones but haven’t found a leather for the X5 but I did find one for the X7 that looks identical, as far as the eye can see, does anyone have any insight as to whether this is possible to swap?
I’d not considered this a possibility at first but after some searching, there’s a chance maybe? Thanks |

They should be the same. Here are the options/part numbers for both the X5 and X7.

is the vehicle under warranty? If so, I would try another dealer service departmnet or contact BMW NA custome relations. The leather dash is known to delaminate from being in the sun in hot climates and I have personally had one replaced under wararnty, as have many others I know. It is not a straightforward job to replace one and you'd be much better off doing so at a dealer under warranty.

Vehicle is not under warranty. I made another post about it explaining the gruesome details. A claim was made IN warranty by previous owner - but BMW “apparently” was out of them or back ordered because of this issue. Owner didn’t want to wait, traded in vehicle, and during dealerships possession - factory warranty expired. Salesman lied and said ext warranty would cover it.
I’ve done everything i can apart from hire an attorney or do small claims court. But i feel that that would all cost about as much as just getting a used one and swapping it. What i am curious about now is what was mentioned about not being straight forward? I mean. Obvi not fun. But how tricky can it be? Thanks y’all |

It is very involved as you are disassembling the entire dash. I wouldn't think it is anything someone should try to do on their own. This should give you some idea of the steps required.

Oh believe me, i called BMW NA two different time and went through the whole thing with them. They gave me two dif versions of the runaround, ultimately pointing me back to dealer and service advisor, telling me to tell them to contact BMW field advisor or something and this and that and this and that, etc.
I have a two year old son And I just don’t have time to be going back-and-forth with these people over and over so many times. Obviously, they ultimately want me to burn out, so they win… but it just is what it is. I’m just trying to find the quickest solution with the least amount of resistance at this point. I’m not a “BURN EM TO THE GROUND” kinda guy, I’ve been very respectful and patient, but firm. And that’s about all i have to give. |
