To those complaining about the screen on the LCI

This is the soon to be released and newly redesigned 6th generation Toyota 4Runner.

I’ll be fine as long as BMW keeps the idrive controller! I rarely reach up and touch the screen. My OCD hates the fingerprints.

It’s giving me a headache. I prefer my buttonless LCI with glued on screen

At least their instrument cluster still looks like an instrument cluster.

I’m training myself to only use the controller and voice.

Unfortunately, based on some recent designs, BMW is doing away with the controller. They are all in on voice with touchscreen capabilities as well.

Bummer and assuming you are referring to the neue klass design as pictures I've seen of the latest interior shots do not show an iD controller. 😢

Agreed. Doing away with the instrument cluster makes it feel less like a vehicle that begs to be driven.

Not sure what the point of this was. The new 4runner has a nice looking interior with hard controls for things that need them.

Are you just saying that Toyota did a better job than BMW? This thread confuses me.

I think they are saying their new screen is worse than the X5 screen.

At least it has a few buttons and a gear shifter. 2023 was the height of bmws interior design imo. I do not care for the arrows on the dash nor do I want to drive a car with 0 buttons. Maybe somehow voice control will be able to read my mind in a few years, fingers crossed.

One of the things I really liked about BMW was the interior design. From the well thought out and easy to use button controls to the more aesthetically pleasing optional crystal shifter.

The new 4Runner still has manual temperature controls.

I was a big 4Runner fan too, well about 14 years ago when fifth gen came out. But I got tired of the gutless perfromance, horrible gas mileage and unresponsive transmission.

Looks ok to me. At least the dash still has manual controls for HVAC which shows Toyota maybe knows where to draw the line on LCD integration.

Those as well as the X1 and X2 that recently came out. The G45 X3 should be keeping it though from what I have seen.

I find it is nice... for a 4 runner, with a POS 4 banger.

A lot of people are ok with that trade off since they never have to see a service bay. I'd trade gas mileage for better reliability out of the bmw every single day. I'd take single digit fuel economy in the bmw if it meant it was going to be Toyota level reliable, lol.

And while 4runner may offer manual temp controls, I'm sure dual or trizome ac is an option.

I used to think from living at dealers all my life was character but after owning a few Toyota/lexus products I can say how nice to never have to go a dealer and never worry about traveling I will say my 2022 x5 is not a problem either but I only have 11,000 miles further more it’s crazy how the bmw depreciation is compared to a Toyota is so sad make a person to never want another bmw again Due to its value in five years

This might be an unpopular opinion but I love depreciation. Thats how I get an m8 Gran coupe for 85k 2-3 years after it sold new for 160k. Or a 1 year old x5 m50 for 70k with 10k miles which translates to 30k off sticker.

Toyota, in many cases doesn’t have a true competitor to what bmw offers. So, to go to a yota I’d have to sacrifice the driving experience. Which kills the whole reason for getting into the car in the first place, doesn’t it? Why do I even own a car at that point?

This view won’t resonate with the utilitarian personality that owns and is attracted to a Toyota that they use to get from point a to point b. Toyota owners looking for good gas mileage and reliability usually aren’t interested in an exhilarating driving experience and a bmw owner looking for performance doesn’t think at all about mpg or service trips.

I can use controller for most things, but from within a single tile on the 8.5 screen, how do you scroll between the sub-tiles within the single tile? The only way I can access the sub-tiles is to swipe left/right with my finger between them.
