While I have the package, I agree with you. Items like this should be solid and upscale even in the most basic edition.
That’s what we should expect from a premium / luxury brand.

BMW has been scaling their luxury down across the board since 2021. Vehicles below anything with a “7” in it has taken the most cuts. I believe BMW got a free test in how far they can eliminate options in the name of “covid”. Now they have conditioned their newest customers since 2021 that these luxury omissions are normal.

It’s definitely one of my most favorite options on the X5. Just really added that little extra “something” to the interior.

It has a strange format too. Took us several attempts to make a paper template. Once we had it, we cut leather to fit. Now at least stuff inside is not noisily rolling around.
You lined the inside of the glovebox in leather?

No, only the bottom portion where you put stuff on. The area is surprisingly small since the lid is coming up on it when you close.

It was mainly to prevent things to move around.

Think of it as a tablecloth.

You should send your design to BMW Individual!

Is the issue with the glovebox not being padded on the inside?

Are you referring to the pre LCI or the LCI when you talk about the flimsy and light sun visors?

The pre-LCI's are very flimsy, at least when not covered in Alcantara, and I would imagine the LCI's are the same.

That's why I was asking the question. I just came back from another longish trip and while driving recalled the comments about the sun visors so I took a look/feel at mine. They are freak'n robust, thick, hard and of great quality so I was thinking the sun visor comments only pertained to the LCI. My only complaint, and it's not with only BMW is that when you rotate them to block the sun from the side window, you cannot tilt them downwards, you can only extend them horizontally. It always leaves a gap when the sun is low in the sky. But in terms of quality, mine ('21) are great and they are not Alcantara.

I have a 2022, so pre-LCI. It doesn't make me feel any less aggravated that they may have finally put decent visors in the 2024 version of an $80K+ vehicle though.

Slightly off topic, but I have to add the cheap feeling black plastic gearshift knob with the awful seam along the back on my 2022. Even the one on my 2018 2-series is nicer. Obviously not an issue LCI onwards...

Thanks for the pic, and I just opened it on my G05 and looks the same. As for quality, it works, closes with ease, lockable, and lined, so no issues. As for not being hefty, not sure if I would want the door/cover to be heavier?

It makes the knob feel so cheap, I thought it was a defect at first. But I realized every pre-LCI had this seam

It haunts me when I drive - it really feels awful. Have considered if there is some kind of alcantra self-adhesive “wrap” that could make it nicer but not sure how to deal with the edges….

Is this the seam? Seems to feel more like a ridge, till I took a picture of it.
