Just trying to bump this back to the top ... what are our reasons to believe the M50i will be a FY2020 X5 option for NA (July 2019 build ... November 2019 delivery)? I will wait if there are reasons to believe... but I also don't want to wait a year only to have nothing happen (I won't wait until LCI for this). Been waiting for the new X5 for a few years now ... need a new ride.

I have a lot of doubts (expressed elsewhere in this thread) that even if the M50i is added, it's not going to have the power bump that folks are expecting, at least without a material increase in price which in my view would put it a bit too close to the new X5 M assuming that also doesn't receive a material price bump.

Best intel we have is the New Model Pipeline thread.

Shows X5 and X6 M50i as MY2020. Updates are always in the first post.

Anyone (other than Kief) able to chime in on accuracy rate of this link (in terms of prediction success rate)?

2020 G05 X5
- sDrive40i (B58TÜ, 335hp)
- xDrive45e (390hp)
- xDrive M50i (N63TÜ3, 530hp, replacing xDrive50i)

Canada and US releases are usually lock step... so the intel usually applies to both markets. Still trying to get a pulse on how accurate the predictions have historically been. Have been away from the forum for a while, so trying to get caught up on how good the reads are.

chill boys..

goal is 2 share, my experience is bmw Canada ( unsure about usa) is either scant or late or inaccurate with respect to news. They really don't care about us the consumer. Hence we try to share from these forums. I believe that is one of the main purposes. All facts are welcome. In the past I have experienced differences from USA to Canadian models.

Thanks ... but based on "predictions" posted on the link above, how accurate have these been to date? i.e. Almost always right, 50/50, usually inaccurate?

It has been spot on for things I’ve been interested in or watched. Such as 8 series, x3, x3m, x5, x7.

I am waiting to replace my 50i until MY2020 regardless (let the gremlins get worked out and supply chains stabilize). But I will be shocked if I can’t get an M50i. As our resident SA has said, there is no way X5 will not have an M Performance variant. Thread also mentions X6 M50i at launch next year.

But until there is an official announcement, we won’t know 100% on the timing.

X5 45e a 2020MY?

For some reason I thought I had seen that the X5 45e would be a MY2021 (launch in fall of 2020).

Kief, your post shows it as a MY2020 (August 2019?), am I reading that correctly?

I am intrigued by this car if the all-electric range is really 80km this could be a very good product.

Wonder if it has the acceleration of a Tesla Model X when the 45e is on all electric.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Oh, one more question, we currently are not able to order the DHP with the 2018 X5 40e. Do you think the DHP will also be un-available with the 2020 X5 45e?

Thanks.

Yeah, that's how it reads in the link:

As for DHP in the 45e, I highly doubt it. Here's the Thread I started on that fiasco with the 40i:

I've ordered the X5 5.0, fully knowing the M50i is coming in 2020. I don't have a lease on my current 2012 E70, so that's not a driver. I chose to order now, because the current V8 engine is outstanding from a HP/Torque perspective, plus the other upgrades on the G05 are too enticing to pass up. I don't need to go 530hp. 0-60 at 4.6 seconds (on the 2019 V8) is plenty. As for working out the kinks as a new model...that's a risk I'm willing to take to get the new tech, along with a great engine now, rather than waiting a year. Plus...let's not forget the prices will most likely rise with the M50i. Just my 2 cents.

I ordered the 50i for many of the same reasons. 530hp sounds great but why really? Prices will go up, and there isn't anything else available that is close for the current pricing.

OT, but is it me, or has BMW really lost its way (mind) on its trims lately? What in the world is with the garage floor diamond pattern trim in picture 3?

You can option the 50i to something very close to a theoretical M50i anyway. You may not have quite the same engine and be missing some badges but that is not a big deal.

OTOH I would be more concerned about buying a first model year BMW.

My logic as well for ordering now. As for new model year risk...also consider the M50i engine will be new to the X5 in 2020. It is only in the M850i now, and when placed in an X5, there are bound to be some glitches. The current V8 engine isn't as risky as its been out a while. I'd rather take the risk with the other features, than with a new engine for the model. Could have bigger impacts if it doesn't work as planned.

There's no saying BMW won't keep the 50i too because the X5 is a huge selling platform for them in the US. Anything is possible going forward. Personally I'd be happy with either, but given choice between the 50i, M50i and X5M I'd just buy the M

So I took your advice...and picked up yesterday:
2018 X5M Black Sapphire Metallic over full Aragon Brown Merino Leather!!
It came optioned with the 21" 612M in black, but I'm not really a fan of black wheels, so I opted to make those my winter setup, and I ordered an additional set of 21" 612M in silver.

As always, I asked the dealer not to touch the paint or interior. Unfortunately, I didn't have enough time last night to do my own full detail, so it was only a quick wash for now.
Looks fantastic! Congrats and enjoy in good health.
