I got 20 something on mostly highway driving yesterday. I finally set the mpg display on my instrument cluster and will monitor more closely. I expect decent fuel efficiency only after break-in.

What is this ”mpg” I am reading about? I sit in the driveway reving up my V8TT listening to the M exhaust burble and pop.
Priorities, priorities.

Seriously, if you are in the North East, search out Sunoco fuel. 93 or 94 is all I run in the good cars. I can tell a difference in my P-Cars

Years ago I had a spreadsheet I built that would graph mileage, lifetime mileage, miles per tank, fuel price, etc. I would input the receipt and current odometer reading. Now I just use the onboard computer for this info (or maybe I just care less now ).

Yes, but do you calculate it in your head?

I've always wondered if the car computer matches the "real" MPG.

It's been great reading your posts on the G05. I've learned a lot. Can't wait to pick mine up in Spartanburg. Happy New Year!
Thanks, I try to help most of the time because I enjoy it. The car is usually 1-2mpg higher than actual mileage in my case but it depends on each car.

I'll post my thoughts and some stuff if/when mine ever starts production as I did with my Audi SQ5 and current X3 M40i

Try doing a GasBuddy search. Sam's Club in San Antonio had regular for $1.74, premium $2.19.
That's a 5hr trip from where I live I've used gas buddy but honestly I stopped caring about a $0.10-0.15 difference per gallon because it's trivial. I always use top tier fuel (has cleaning additives) to keep things running smoothly. I'd love to use 93octane daily but only 2-3 stations where I live carry it and they're all out of the way.

Prices were higher a few weeks ago ranging from $3-3.35, but this isn't much better. As I mentioned prices where I live tend to be the most expensive in the state. It's not a big deal to me, plus I usually pay more for top tier fuel (has cleaning additives) depending on which station I visit.

If it were only 10 - 15 cents in my area, I'd do what you do and not even think about it. Where I live in the San Francisco Bay Area, the difference for premium is $3.05 for a low to $3.79. I'm not going to ignore a 20% swing just on principle.

There's a 17-19% difference here as well believe it or not. The lowest I could find was $2.70, highest $3.20 so it's about the same. Of course the actual price is less than in California. If you used 750 gallons a year it would only be a ~$370 difference which honestly isn't bad. I completely get not wanting to spend more due to principle.

I don't go clear across town to save a nickel, but I also don't blindly go into a $3.79 a gallon 76 station in a $3.25 a gallon market. The $300 a year I save I can buy a nice crystal gear shift knob on my next car

I agree, I usually fill up at certain stations during my commute for that reason. Did you order the crystal shifter this go around?

No. Its my wife's car and she didn't want to be too flashy. Not her style and I like that about her. After seeing some of the photos posted by owners, I think it looks pretty nice. Maybe next time.

I agree on the non-flashy part but at the same time I'd rather have it on mine since I'm paying $98k. I prefer being subtle over flashy which is why I'm blacking out the chrome bits too. My wife is similar and doesn't like glitz things aside from her purses which is another story. She has a Kate Spade one that literally looks like a cat which is her favorite over the more expensive ones in our closet.

Your car will look stunning.

My wife likes the look of the crystal but its just not her. Its her car and we sat down and built it together. I tried to squeeze as many things I want into the build and still respect the fact that its her car. If there was something that she wanted/didn't want that I was in strong disagreement, I would have nudged her. Luckily, that wasn't necessary. She had no interest in the leather dash or the merino leather but happily went along. We've been married over 40 years. Give-and-take and collaberation work for us.

On the other hand, I have a friend that buys his wife's car for her without any input from her. Beautiful cars but she hates them and she hates him (literally) for making her choices for her. If she'd gone to the dealer she may have picked the very same car and loved it because it was her choice. My friend will never understand that nuance.

At the risk of sounding sexist, does that sum up the "Ladies" for you?

She wouldn't go and get her own car, but then hates her husband for probably picking up too many nice options for her!

It was not my intent to derail this thread. I was just sharing
a response about crystal gear shift knob yes/no decision process and I embellshed about a friend who does not include his wife in choices the car he choses for her. Sure, she could go buy her own. Sorry for inadvertantly leading us off topic.

I completely get where you are coming from. While I haven't been married nearly as long (I'm a bit younger than you) that's the best way of doing things. I don't like picking out things for my wife unless I know it's exactly what she wants because she always ends up happier that way.

I'm not sure why someone would think their opinion on a vehicle would make their spouse happy (since this has happened before) so I'll stay out of that

After about 700 miles, I'm getting 19mpg in about 75% stop/go and 25% highway. This is 2mpg better than my E70 (in similar conditions) and I'm still in break-in phase.

Edit - per following texts. Mine is a 40i

40i? We'll need more info like what type of driving, drive modes used, style of driving , (moderate, aggressive etc) and as lot not info or that's a meaningless statement

Yeah... somethings not right. I got 21.3 on our last road trip with a Thule on top doing 85 most of the time... includes city driving at destination. It was a little higher just highway.
