Cross Traffic Alert - Is yours working?

Can anyone confirm their cross traffic alert system is working? We don’t get any notification of approaching cars front/rear. Someone mentioned the dealer told them it is currently disabled and will be enabled in a future over the air update. Would love to get some confirmation before scheduling a service appointment.

Thanks!

I have not gotten an alert for this. I have been using the wide angled lense to look for traffic and that has been very useful for cross traffic.

Hmm...according to the manual there should be an acoustic warning, the triangle in the mirror should flash on the side with incoming traffic, and the camera display edges should flash red on the side of traffic. We get none of those. So something isn’t working on our cars!

Mine alerted me once for the rear when I was backing out of a parking spot. With loud warning sound as well as quite visible red flashes on thr camera view.

The system is activated but I can tell you from experience that it is a late warning. The system also only works if you are actually moving and it picks up another car approaching.

All of the warnings regardless of setting are way late this time. The 2016 F15 front collision warning was spot on with timing.

All of the “safety” stuff like lane departure correction and cross traffic/pedestrian warnings are way worse in this implementation.

This is all software to fix but I fear what others do with regard to updates. Even though technically they can be over-the-air they will likely not be delivered that way and will require multiple service center visits with tons of wasted time and resources for everyone including the dealership.

By now there should have been an update or two for CarPlay stuff and the violent steering intervention.

What issues are you having with Carplay?

Random disconnection from CarPlay - phone won't reconnect until car powered off/on - even after manually attempting to connect

Random stuck on a radio station and can't get back to CarPlay - although I suspect this is more of an iDrive7 issue than CarPlay - but annoying nonetheless

Unable to answer calls - screen unresponsive

I haven't tried the iTunes/Music stuff as others have and said that those portions don't work

A Fighter Pilot's Guide to Being Seen

I'm already anticipating the "Off Topic" replies, but hopefully more will find this article really interesting the way I did... relative to the discussion threads (this one included) on the automated safety systems in the G05.

I'm a cyclist (well... less of one now than I used to be), and a cycling buddy sent this to me. Interesting stuff on how the eyes and brain work -- or don't work -- together to perceive situations/surroundings.

Provides the science for why most of us seem to like having things like Cross Traffic Alert.

EDIT/UPDATE: Guess I should have included the link:

I agree. It's disappointing that the G05 cross-traffic is notifying late or requiring the vehicle to be in motion.

I sat in the company parking waiting to pull out in my 2017 F15 and the front cross-traffic alert triangles were going off as vehicles were coming into the edge its periphery. Same with rear.

Fascinating. As both a (non-fighter) pilot and driving enthusiast, I enjoyed this article and learned beyond what I already knew.

I'm hoping more people will post their experiences with Rear Cross Traffic alert. I'm deciding on getting G05 and if the that feature does not work well, I may go with another brand. It's one of the most useful safety features I have on my Lexus GX, I find it super useful in parking lots and tight carports where you can't see the space behind you. The one I have on Lexus works if you are in reverse and even if you are not moving, detects cars and pedestrians very well. Please post your experiences.
Thanks And Merry Christmas to all!

I'd like to hear answers to this too. I just did a search and others in the X3 forum describe it working as it's supposed to in their vehicles.

After the 03/2019.35 update I actually got a front cross traffic alert. Have never had that before. I was pulling out of a McDonalds (it's Filet O'Fish season... I mean Lent) and was timing it to get in an open pocket on a busy thoroughfare. As my X5 rolled slightly forward I guess it felt I started moving too early bc it alarmed to warn me with a two beep alert. Haven't had an opportunity where the rear cross traffic would get triggered yet, but we'll see.

Mine worked couple of times with visual and audio but it is very late. I compare it with my Subaru and CR-V, they work great and are very sensitive. I hope Bmw improves the functionality.

Mine alerted today. AFAIK it only alerts when the car is in motion. I wish it would have alerted me earlier though.
