Reported mine this week. SA said it is a known issue and there will be a software update by end of March.

I reported to Transport Canada after my SA told me his shop foremen told it's normal the way steering react on cold weather.

Surprisingly, i got the call from Transport Canada immediately to get more information about the issue.

Picked up new X5 MSport today, and immediately felt this issue as soon as I got on the highway (65 degrees out today).

Car feels as unstable as my lifted Jeep Wrangler (loose/sloppy) it's all over the road at highway speeds, almost as if I can never hold it dead center. Very uncharacteristic for a BMW, hope this gets fixed.

You must have some setting that needs adjusting. My 40i is ROCK solid and rides an order of magnitude better than my DHP equipped F15. That's the gods honest truth.

I've officially put more miles on my X3 loaner than my own G05... 2,800kms and counting. Been in the shop for several weeks now because of the steering issue, and not sure if any fix is in sight yet?? Has anyone gotten an update on this, or are we all still just in limbo at BMW's mercy?

I got the answer from BMW CANADA. Look like they are not going to fix anything the way they answered me.I will post the BMW response email, soon. I already put 5K km's on my loaner.

I've been told a fix is coming soon. Sounds like Germany was slow to react to the problem. While I keep hearing software fix, I'm left scratching my head how cold weather is a software issue. Seems like something mechanical is the problem since it is just drive by wire.

Either way, I was told this is a big deal for BMW right now.

That would be great but I got the different answer from them and they called it's an Akermann function

So they are justifying it instead of fixing it?

Is this from your dealer or BMW? I am talking about the paper explanation.

My sense is that your complaint is different from the primary one described by others on this post, and that I too have experienced. Ours would more accurately be described as "twitchy" steering at higher speeds, approximately 40 mph and higher, in cold weather. Our issue is characterized as the vehicle attempting ongoingly to grab the steering, to the point it takes effort to keep the vehicle in the center of the lane. There is no "acoustic" component to our issue.

Yours seems to be a different problem.

So, did all the people who experienced the issue still have their normal summer / all seasons on when this occurred?

Believe me, I got the same issue (steering twitch).First I noticed when the weather plummeted-28 and I turned off the lane departure and steering intervention but that didn't help much then only I went to the dealer.

I got a call from my dealer last week and was told BMW doesn't have a fix planned anytime soon, so I need to pick up my car and return the loaner as 'BMW Canada was only doing a good faith gesture by allowing me to have a loaner in the first place.' HAH!

I told them BMW can piss off, and if thats how they want to view this issue then maybe i'll let the media / social media give their opinion on the matter. Also, I'm keeping my loaner until I decide the temperatures are consistently warm enough that driving my G05 is safe.

No acoustic component to my steering issue either. My twitch steering can be felt at about 10+ mph, but gets progressively harder to control and stay within the lane with greater speed.

My g05 is at the dealer right now for this exact steering issue and because the idrive keeps glitching out. They already told me they can't do anything about the steering because I have summer tires on it. As per the office, it's been a week and they can't figure out how to apply a software update. this is absurd

I picked up mine on last Saturday as i mentioned earlier they are not interested to fix. When more customers register their complaints to Transport Canada then possibly a recall.

PS: They updated the software (version is .22) but surprisingly it's showing the version is .22 before the update the version was .49

Also Picked up X5 this weekend same above 60 deg weather and steering is sloppy and loose. Haven't tried sport mode to see if that fixes anything.
