What the heck conditions do you need for them to activate? I am getting them in mine and I'd like to think they make a difference.

I've said this before in another thread... these headlights are certainly the best I've ever seen, but the hype was more than what I actually have experienced. Maybe if I drove more on curvy roads with trees and other things to illuminate it would be more impressive.

I'm sure they have met the conditions, but are completely underwhelming. I wonder if it is another US regulation the SEVERELY limits their performance/capability...

I believe have the neutered decoded version, about half the distance of the of the european ones. If and when approved in the US the full potential would be available.

Ok so I noticed the gradual fade vs on/off instant switch ie probably the laser lights. Out here where's it's pitch black I did notice a difference. Hell a car 1/4-1/2 mile ahead was illuminated clearly which is great. I'm sure they have a lot more potential once we can properly code the lights. In the corners there's no issue seeing ahead thanks to the swiveling + lasers (or what I assume was them). I wish BMW had a clear indication of when they turned on. One thing I'll say is these headlights are much better than the Adaptive Full LED ones on my G01 X3 M40i so I'm happy.

You can tell the difference but don't forget, they are lasers...it is not a wide beam general brightening of the world, it is a spot about 2 metres squared in front that is noticeable brighter than the rest. As has been said, it is about the distance, so within that square you will see it brighter than the rest...

I wonder if this one of BMW's new "marketing gags".... cornering lights that don't work, M Sport exhaust that sounds like an electric car, laser lights that don't kick in.....

Seems like there is some kind of pattern to this?

There's likely more to it than you think

I drove in a bit of fog this morning and more than once was over 37 with auto-headlights and at times manually switching on the headlights. I could not tell a difference.

The video in the last past says lasers only come on with the auto setting, but our manual says this:

When the high beams are switched-on, starting with a speed of approx. 37 mph/60 km/h, the laser high beams in the headlight are automatically switched on in addition to the LED high beams.

headlights must be in auto. the easiest way to tell is when the auto high beams are on tap the stalk to turn them off then again to turn them in you'll see an install high beam then gradual fade. The gradual fade is your laser lights. they illuminate the center are actually more like a spot light if that makes sense

There is definitely a noticeable difference from when the Laser high beams first display to how they continue to behave every time thereafter. Same behavior every time the car is turned on and off.

When they first fire, auto high-beam setting on, they are intense and briefly conform to objects ahead before dimming. The next time they come on, it's as if they are merely a brighter and wider version of the low-beams. Interestingly, the adaptive lights seem to recognize the height of taillights from the car in front of the X5 and adjust projection height accordingly. Very noticeable in stop-and-go nighttime traffic.

I experienced the Laser lights briefly on a long stretch of i95 through NC. There wasnt any on coming cars accross the median. You really have to be isolated without any other cars around for them to activate. That said the Led lights were outstanding shining 3 cars further than the cars infront. My wife loved the white/blue illuminating way out infront. They are significantly more powerful than her A4. Probably the brightest I have ever used and the focal points are razor sharp and accurate. Better than my Porsche 911 C4S. The Porsche is really good but the new BMW system is better.

They turn on all of the time out here because we have no real lighting and I agree. I didn't notice when the came on until someone pointed it out. Seeing them is odd since the lights mainly illuminate the middle everywhere else is from normal high beams. Audi's lights have really fallen behind the times

Went for a drive last night to play with these. Certainly in the UK, the lasers make a real difference. There is a step-up in general brightness when they come on and then also the distance. Find a country lane then go above and below the circa 40mph and it is quite obvious. As a general comment, the adaptive lights on the G05 are much more responsive than the previous gen. I used to get concerned of dazzling oncoming traffic but now it theatrically dances around them. Pretty sure my passengers are bored of my adaptive headlight chat...but sod'em

Good to hear nocompromise but concerned about them not coming on until 37mph, on my Merc I have intelligent LED'S and high beam comes on at 20mph, they are brilliant. The auto high beam is also brilliant having only been flashed twice in 2 years of ownership.

The high beam comes on from circa 15-20mph and is still extremely bright. But the lasers that supplement the beam come on at the 37 mph. Trust me, these lights kick-the ass of any others (I have BMW and Porsche intelligent lights).

I still expected more... I wonder what the difference in output is in a euro spec vehicle versus our throttled down performance...

I'm sure it'll be a lot better. As is the headlights are better than the current Adaptive LEDs (I had on a G01 X3) so any improvements will be welcome.
