2013 Toyota Highlander. I hope the X5 is as reliable in the long run.

Not this time.
I've always liked the GT, and thought about getting the new 640i GT for a while. In the right colour with the right wheels, the 535i and 550i GT look great.

Based on what I've been reading us Toyota lovers are in for a big let down. I'm actually scared. I have no patience to take a car back for service for some sloppy work a luxury car manufacturer is making. There's no excuse.

I've been thru 3 Toyota pickups (still driving a Tundra), a Highlander and now a Lexus and they have been flawless when it comes to reliability. Only thing I've ever replaced was windshield wipers, period.

There's a saying that if you like Jaguars you need two - one to drive while the other's in the shop. I hope this gen doesn't full into the same group.

Luxury and good surface looks are in the noise level when it comes to owning a house and cars. Without reliability those good looks become ugly real damn quick.

I have had pretty good results with my last 2 BMWs but I usually sell them before 60-70k miles. Consumer reports usually has BMWs at least in their top 10 in terms of reliability. It's definitely not as reliable as Toyotas but I think if you maintain them well, they should be OK.

A 2013 E70. Absolutely loved that car. The G05 is an even nicer car but I admit, I miss the simplicity of the E70 at times.

I think you run the risk of reliability problems with any euro luxury car manufacturer.

So far my G05 has had some issues, but we've had 2 previous problem-free BMW's. British cars in particular have a pretty bad rep for reliability, but my family has always had luck with Jag, Rover and Aston; never had an issue with any of them. MB & Audi have always seemed to be luck of the draw for us - some are good, some are bad; and I think thats just a chance you take buying any of the above brands.

Unfortunately, if you're expecting Toyota or Honda reliability, you probably shouldn't hold your breath when buying a BMW or any other european car.

Did an early return of a 2018 530e - wanted more space but more electric range
would have kept me in it.

Will take a close look at the X45e. It will be awesome if it got even close to 50 all elec miles. Even if not the combined hybrid miles per gallon should be impressive.

I am giving up a Tesla Model 3 today....going back to dealer due to a bunch of problems. I love the car however. The design is beautiful and so fun to drive around town on a daily basis. The instant torque is amazing and faster than the x5 I have on order. In the end, I am not confident that Tesla can support the car as time goes on. They're great at doing over the air updates to add things like a farting noise on command (yes, they really did this) but fixing things that need fixing they're not so quick at. The dealer could not have been better or nicer to deal with, but the overall experience with the car was disappointing. I previously had an Imperial Blue 2015 X5 35D with Mocha interior. The diesel gave me some issues however. It was leased so I was fine when it went back. The car otherwise was flawless and I loved the design. The GO5 is a huge step up and can't wait to get it.

What was disappointing about the car? I've only heard pretty good reviews and was considering a Tesla for next time.

2012 BMW 135i... absolutely loved it. Only thing I had to replace in 7 years was the water pump. Then I totaled it. Decided to go the opposite end of the spectrum and get the X5.

I'm willing to bet that 1 series held its value very well. They're a popular commodity now

It was a great car but I had several problems. The recurring one that they could not fix had to do with unlocking the doors and shifting the car into drive. The Model 3 does not have a key fob. Instead it relies on a phone app to open and drive the car. As a back up they also provide a credit card sized card to complete the same functions. About half the time I'd approach the car, the door would not immediately unlock. Standing on the edge of a traffic lane, raining and with bags in my hand made it that much more frustrating. Sometimes once safely in the car, I'd "start" the car and the seat and steering wheel would move into place. Then I'd shift into drive but it would not shift. Again some connectivity issue apparently. This issue is well documented on Tesla forums and affects every type of phone, although Iphone is slightly better. What's frustrating too is that even those who have a phone that works flawlessly have reported that suddenly it will become intermittent. With my car I can always open the trunk without issue. But even after opening the trunk (which suggests that the phone did connect with the car) I cant open the front door.

My frustration grew too because the card to open the car did not work well either. They finally replaced the sensor and it worked perfectly.

Tesla did come out with a fob for the car ($150) but it is an old school 1990's fob without a proximity sensor. Tesla has essentially admitted that the phone as key thing does not work consistently enough.

Tesla's other vehicles all have a traditional fob with proximity sensor. That's what the Model 3 needs. After all, entering and driving away in the car are such basic functions that if not consistently working spoil the experience.

I found the fob on my 2017 Model S to be very flaky, and it would go through batteries very quickly. Never worked if it was in the same pocket as my phone, either.

Tesla have a huge lead with the charging network, but the quality of their cars is pretty abysmal. I loved my Tesla but would not buy another.

2018 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Dynamic (Also 2018 Autobiography - long story). Good riddance to both... The 40i feels just as fast as the 510hp V8, which is sad... Miss the exhaust tho. Interior quality/style is meh, and infotainment system makes iDrive 7 look like the most refined and reliable system in the world.

I had a nightmare experience with a Range Rover HSE years back. 7 months of hell. Never ever again with a British motor.
