I was away for a few days so had them take the X1 loaner back. I did just collect my new 911 a few days ago, so I'm OK without a BMW loaner for a while.

Here are a few things I would do in your shoes,
Since the repair is out of your hands and its been over a month,
I would request a refund of your monthly payment (assuming you are leasing/financing) and a similar equipped loaner, not an X1.

I had a similar issue back in 2015 where it took over a month to fix my X6 and I got involved with BMW Financial in regards to my payment and the dealer gave me an X5 loaner.
Yes, good advice. BMW Canada have now said they will be making a compensation offer to me once the repair is completed, so at a minimum I expect that will be a refund of lease payments for the downtime.

Today's update is that it will be at least until the first week of September before the tool is available from Germany. So it will be well over two months from the time of the failure until the car is fixed.

You have GOT to be kidding!!! On a six month old car???? Seriously, you should start proceedings to return the car to BMW and get your money back. Go see a lawyer.

Glad to hear they are willing to work with you. Just keep in mind that their first offer is not their best and you are able to negotiate.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but just be prepared that in exchange for compensation they will want you to sign a release whose terms, at least to me, are totally unacceptable. It basically releases them from any claims current OR future.

The issue is we don't have lemon laws in Canada so it's a regular civil claim in which I'd have to prove actual damages.

And more than two weeks later, BMW Canada have not bothered to call me with any updates, despite their promises to do so. Called them and left a message yesterday, but whatever residual goodwill I had towards the company has now completely evaporated. Once this car is gone, I'll never go back to the brand.

Am I naive in being shocked about what seems to be total disregard for such a major issue with a new vehicle?

What a bummer. I am so disappointed in BMW. They should be embarrassed and should make this right for you.

You are not alone I'm on the same boat. My car is with the dealer last 45 days to fix the front end collision. They already replace KAFAS camera on March that didn't fix the problem now they are waiting for software update and bmw believe that will fix the problem.

I am driving loaner(X1) for last 45 days. If it's a same case in US I will start the lemon law process but in Canada I'm stuck

What amazes me is that, even though there are some reasonably friendly people at the dealer, no-one seems to really care about the issue. I got a call from someone at the dealer today asking if I wanted another loaner, but if it was my business I would make sure at this point that at the very least the service manager was calling the customer to stress they are doing everything they can. And in your situation or mine when we've been without our vehicles for several weeks, it should really be the dealer principal.

I'm actually stopping by the dealer my dealer tomorrow. I'm going to ask my SA about if I had a belt that needed replaced what tools and time would it take. Just out of curiosity on my end. I'll make sure to ask about 40i as well.

I find it very hard to believe they have a belt but there is no way without special tools can they install it.......

I remember in 2005 I have an issue on my old BMW and I went to dealer for more than 3 times but they didn't resolved it but when my attorney sent a mail to the dealer they will start the lemon process they immediately get the bmw engineers from NJ and fixed it in couple of weeks(that time I used to live in U.S) but in Canada we don't have such thing that's why they don't care about costumers.

Out of 8 months ownership my car was at the dealer more than 4 months so far for the following issues.

1) Start/Stop switch problem took 2 months to get the parts
2)KAFAS camera issue and front end collision failure-on going one already spent two months @ the dealer still waiting

The dealer just called, and it looks like my vehicle will be ready on Tuesday of next week (basically exactly two months after the failure).

So just got back from my visit to start my M8 Comp order. Now my SA was standing next to their lead tech when I asked my question. I asked him for a 40i if a drive belt replacement needs to be completed what are we talking for time and tools.

Stated from tech. Ummm tools the standard ones we use on all BMW vehicles. T60bit is the only off size and depending on year a drain for the radiator fluid is needed. But he did say it can be a 3 to 4 hr job depending on tech.

I then asked what about the belt for a GO5 or tools for the GO5. He said same ole tools and belt is in stock since it shares with a couple other models. I asked which he said he would have to get the information from parts.

He did say removal of fan and shroud is recommended and at times it can be a bit of a pain. I told him about your experience and they both looked at me in horror. He jokingly said they must have been a kia dealer now selling BMW but I reinforced the severity of your situation. Needless to say they didn't seem to actually believe me, and said Canada must have something funky with their process.

Well take it as you wish but I feel bad for what you have had to deal with.
