I should also note that my CA told me to hold off on the first month of production for a custom build because there were certain features/options that would not be available. First month of production is usually to get basic spec' cars out to dealers as demo's.

That is sometimes true for colors or options, but should not be true for standard equipment, and the 2020 40is are coming off the line with the rails, so there's an inconsistency there, as well.

Is there any mechanism for you to let the factory know they are screwing up and customers are noticing and not happy about it?

Looks like no roof rails "feature" is exclusive to X5 M50i. Even the X7 M50i does not get this feature:

OP, thanks for posting the video. Love this board because of people like you.
I wouldn’t touch the thing without the rails personally. |

Does anybody know if G05 roof rails can be installed without removing the headliner like prior generations? If yes, I would probably be ok just getting a commitment from my dealer to install after delivery. If removal of headliner is required, I will probably cancel my order soon. Not acceptable for one of BMW's most expensive models.

I found the manager of quality for exterior parts at the factory on Linkedin.
https://www.linkedin.com/in/darlene-kessinger-8154559a Wonder if she is the right person to look into this? Probably not, the more I think about it. She is probably a buyer and not too involved with production. |

Back in 2010, I custom ordered my 2011 X5d MSport w/out roof rails, and it looked killer!!

Rides similar to the regular 50i MSport with adaptive M suspension, this one having the 22"s I noticed it being a bit firmer since we usually stock MSport X5s with 20"s being in New England. Power is strong, really comes alive around 3-4K. Up shifts have a nice crack in sport plus. It does sound better from the outside which I couldn't get in my video.

I want them simply because I'm not getting the tow package and foresee the need to have a cargo carrier on top of the car for beach trips, etc.. If the M50i doesn't come with the rails, I may have to op for the tow package -which I despise b/c I think it really takes away from the look of the car from the rear.
