2019 X5 cracked windshield

Anybody else have a cracked windshield on a 2019 model. Not very happy about this is I’m sure it’s very expensive.
Left front area bottom running upwards.

I can’t wait to see what this costs.

Probably about $2-$2.5k if you go OEM glass

This member just got a price of $1,756 from a dealer which I thought was cheap. Mine got a chip that I got filled but I will need to replace the windshield before I turn it in so hopefully the price above is what I can get it for.

It just happened to me. Fortunately a repair did the trick.
But being in MA, we have mandatory WS replacement covered.

Yep I don’t have coverage and own the vehicle outright. So I will have to decide the best and most cost effective replacement. I had a seven series several years back that needed a windshield. the Safelite windshield was the identical one to the dealer windshield. The glass factory was the same. The only difference was the nomenclature on the seal.

For what it might be worth this windshield was for a very basic X5 that did not have HUD or pretty much anything else. I don’t know if that makes any difference.

I thought the windshield is the same no matter what options you have but perhaps the price difference its that you don't need any calibration done if you don't have a driver assistance package.

An HUD windshield is different than a regular.

You should be able to get a quote in Safelite.com. I just did one for replacement with a HUD and it came to 769.99 if I were paying for it myself and that should include all the recalibration that is needed.

When I replaced using safelight I still had to take my car to Mercedes to calibrate it, FYI. Mercedes charged me $100 to do it.

It could be they don't do it for all manufactures. I don't know for sure whether they do it for BMW or not.

Edit: Noticed that the have an asterisk on the page - *Recalibration may not be available for all vehicles or at all locations

I will check Safelite tomorrow. As we have a fleet account with them. So perhaps it will be cheaper than your $769.99 price. That price is also fair in my opinion.

That price surely isn't OEM glass, BTW. I know their glass will meet the minimum fed standards but don't know how that compares to BMW specs.

Just went to the Safelite website and you are correct on the pricing. But then they have a charge of $300 for recalibration of the cameras.

Would you like us to recalibrate your Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS)?

Your 2019 BMW X5 has an Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS). In order to have this safety feature function properly, it will need to be dynamically recalibrated.
What is ADAS recalibration?

Safelite can perform this service for $300.00 during your appointment.

Add ADAS recalibration to your order

Opt out of ADAS recalibration*

*Vehicle manufacturers require a recalibration of the camera system after a windshield replacement. You must go to a dealership or a qualified specialist, like Safelite AutoGlass, to have your camera system recalibrated as soon as possible after the replacement of your windshield.

The real question would be does the calibration get screwed up from a replacement? Where is the camera mounted?

From everything I have seen, the recalibration process needs to be done when the windshield is changed. Perhaps it has to do with the glass properties as well as the camera placements, I don't know.

I was told OEM was about $2500 and many insurance companies won't pay so I bought glass coverage in addition to tire and wheel insurance.

I just had the windshield replaced after a pebble on the highway put a 2' crack across it. It was covered by insurance, who actually suggested I take it back to the dealer. The parts, including sensors, etc (hud, rain, kfas), were $2,500 plus another $1,000 to install and calibrate. Good thing insurance covers it 100%.

Had this happen about 3 weeks ago and had the windshield replaced at Safelite. Total replacement cost was $1,100 and some change. I have windshield replacement coverage so it was $50 out of pocket for me. Glass was non OEM but identical to OEM. Curious to see how the BMW decides to deal with it when I return the lease.

Can you provide a picture of the window marker seal? So we can see difference between OEM seal and =. My guess is it’s produced in the same factory.

was speaking to a person at the safelite office locally. The said their glass was made by FUYAO which is the same company that made the OEM glass that is in my X5.

BMW dealer $2,175.82 installed.

Safelite $884.68 installed

Late to this post but I had to have mine replaced after taking a rock to the windshield on my way back from PCD pickup. The dealership in NVA (BMW of Sterling) attempted a repair but it didn’t get to all the damage. The Windshield needed to be shipped from Germany and took a week to arrive. The Dealership has two factory train windshield replacement technicians and they did a fantastic job with the replacement. Although the insurance company paid the bill it was $3K.

Just had my windshield replaced today at safelite. It took them less than an hour. The technician was very good. The overall price was right.
$668.00.

The glass was made by FUYAO. Which is the same as the OEM glass. The general manager at the Safelite branch thought since the car was so new (2019) the glass was probably made in the same factory as the OEM.

I did not have them do the calibration as the car is scheduled to go to the dealer to have the upgrade of the software and the CAS camera system.

The car has had so many fault codes on a daily basis I am sure that they will have to deal with the overall programming so I decided to forgo paying Safelite a fee to do the calibration.
Scheduled for the software upgrade for Thursday this week.
