Have you guys tried your VIN in the 50e stop sale thread? Not sure if the VIN checker is picking up delivered builds too.

An update from the technician, he found a fault in cell 6 of the high voltage battery (there are 9 total cells I believe) that caused the vehicle to go into this dormant state (a precaution to avoid a possible battery fire).
The battery cell in question was not properly charging (low while the other cells were full), and therefore caused a fault. This is interesting because the vehicle recently charged and the display instruments showed full overall battery. Anyway, the next question the technician is trying to determine is whether the one cell can be replaced, or will the entire battery need to be replaced. He said battery faults like this are rare in the X5 line but not unknown and that the supplier has been Samsung in the past, but he did not know if the LCI uses Samsung. Looks like he is referring to the stop sale.

Having the same problem w/check engine light
I too am having this issue. I picked up my 2024 X5 50 e from the performance delivery center 5/2, the check engine light was on when we picked it up. Took into dealer, they said it was a software glitch, reset it & it has been fine.. Until today.. I noticed the last few times I've taken it off the charger , the charger has been warm. I am taking it back in on Monday. I've printed out what you said the problem is & will keep you posted. I love this car, had BMW's from 1993 until I purchased a Mercedes GLE in 2018 which was NEVER in the shop, completely reliable. That said, no where near as much fun to drive. If they can't resolve this & it keeps happening, they should give those affected a new car.. I am going to reach out to BMW N. America .. I'm very glad I googled "check engine light hybrid x5" so I found your post.,

They diagnosed as 'combined charging unit module' at the garage and have been waiting all this time for the part to arrive in Germany and then ship to UK. Apparently the part is now being fitted to the car and then hopefully it will take a charge and faults will clear (I'll keep you updated on whether that fixes the problems) Here's hoping .... |

Same thing - check engine light, replace refrigerant valve
My experience with this problem, different actions after diagnosis, before repair.
2024 X5 50e - manuf date May 31 (week#??), delivery to me June 8, 2023. Approx June 16 Check Engine Light comes on, miles = 300+/-.. Called dealer service but they couldn't remotely read (is this true?). Suggested trying an auto parts store to get an OBD read. (I asked if ok to operate X5 with Check Engine Light on, service dept said ok, as long as it was steady, not flashing.) Tried 3 stores, not possible to read, likely out of date OBD software. Called dealer, made service appt for June 22. Still ok to operate with CEL. June 22 (Operating with CEL for about a week), technician said problem was with refrigerant valve, stuck open, part of cooling system for HV battery, but since stuck open should be no problem, just have a battery cooler than normal. Heat not a problem, maybe see a bigger charge (which I did - started to see 48mi available on full charge). Part on order, take X5 home and return when part comes in, maybe 1-2 weeks. Part arrived in a week, July 8 appointment to install. So now running with CEL for 3 weeks. No apparent problems, charged ok, everything normal. Part replaced was p/n 64-50-5-A0F-0D0 Expansion Vent. All charging done at 240V, 32A Level 2. Drove home (65 miles from Dealer), uneventful. Out of curiosity checked Bimmerpost.com and found this thread. Imagine my surprise when the other reported problems resulted in "do not drive" orders. So I'm not sure whether to feel "lucky" that my valve got stuck open or whether my valve was malfunctioning the same as all the others here and the X5 really should have been sidelined until repaired......Or maybe the other dealers were just learning and erred on the side of caution and my dealer was either more knowledgeable or just more of a risk taker (with my car!) or didn't know better. |

Hi folks, one from Germany to add. Production date 30/04/2023 and I hat the very same issue on the day I picked up the car after about 50miles. No idea, what will happen next. Damn it. Such a bad luck apparently.

2024 x5 50e three weeks old. Had similar issue as reported in this thread. Odb2 reader indicated:
P0D1B Hybrid/EV Battery Pack Coolant Control Valve "B" Performance/Stuck Off Vehicle has a production date of: 6/1/2023 Just dropped it off at bmw dealer and they were unaware of any larger issues. This does not inspire confidence in a quick fix. Will update when I learn more. Update: I just called BMW of North America and they stated there are not aware of any issue effecting numerous x5 50e vehicles (as described in this thread) and no recall or stop sale on the vechicles at this time. Not sure this is accurate info given the amount of reporting in this forum. Update July 11: BMW service advisor called and said they would be replacing battery pack coolant control valves (two in car) and part will arrive on 12 July. We will see |

Adding mine to the thread
I have been watching this thread for a week. Adding my info now.
50e check engine light came on 7/3/2023. Fully charged, drove for 5 miles in electric with light on. An hour later started car, light still on, drove 5 miles but could not select electric (said it was currently unavailable). Plugged back in, called BMW, I had appt to pick up new plates that day. Was able to drive to BMW in electric. Car has been turned off in the same location at dealership since the 3rd, they are busy and can't get to it yet. I have a 2024 S40i as a loaner that still has the sale info on the window. They have said they will need it back soon but I won't give it back before I know how long I will be waiting for my car. Incidentally, these cars do not even come close to comparing. Built week of May 10th - whatever that build week number is. 616 Miles, most of which were on electric, still have over 3/4 tank of gas. picked up car May 26th. |

Previous car was a 2015 X5 xdrive, have never held a car for this long but was waiting for the new engine upgrade to come out and it didn't make it into the '23 model like initial rumors said. I felt that the 2023 45e was a little underpowered with the old engine when I drove it. By contrast the 50e is amazing. It is really back to what an X5 should be, powerful and a joy to drive. Even just in electric the 50e is fun to drive and in sport, wow. By comparison the 40i feels like my old car with over 100,000M on it. OK, that is an exaggeration but my 2015 was an amazing car that never gave me a single issue and still drove well. the 40i is "just an X5" (and this is my 3rd in 13 years). The biggest thing I have noticed is ride comfort, the air suspension in the 50e makes the ride much more comfortable. I just can't help but think if I had just dropped $72.5K on a new X5 and it was only incrementally better than my 2015 I would be disappointed but when I took delivery of my 50e it was such a step up from my old X5 there was no comparison. Hope that helps. Although, who knows who will be the winner in the long run with this check engine issue! |
