I just texted my dealer and he said my compressor is in as well! But, they are still waiting for some of the other parts to come in before they can schedule me to come in.

^^ Did you speak to them on the phone/email? FYI my dealer didn't contact me either because they said they wanted to get ALL of the parts in before doing so. I just have a good relationship with my sales guy and he was just a text away for me.

Just as a FYI for those following this thread. Another member's X5 M50 that was built last week (build date between June 15-25) had a faulty AC Compressor which prevented the dealer from being able to sell him the car. It is insane that BMW knows about the problem but yet still allows the factory to pump them out.
I am wondering if the engines all come pre assembled in Germany as a complete unit and just gets installed in SC? My guess maybe they aren't able to tell which ones are faulty so they have no choice but to let the problem ones fail when they do. My car has been in the shop since yesterday afternoon. No new updates or ETA on how long the process is, hopefully changing out the A/C doesn't take too long.
The agony! So what have you all gotten as compensation from bmw so far or plan on asking for?

I got my windows tinted, a full ceramic coating and the X5 40i loaner I had was nicer than expected, really like the inline 6, mmmmmm M2. Good work by the dealer and BMW in a shitty situation

I am going for two months reimbursement. Frankly just fix my damn car so i can enjoy it for whatever is left of the summer. When called BMWNA they documented when the issue started and told me to reach back when the issue is resolved so they can calculate the exact reimbursement. There is no way in hell they expect me to pay full price for a car without AC during the summer.

Sooooooo, apparently the condenser was damaged during shipping. They need to order the part (again) from Germany with no ETA of arrival.
Might need to lawyer up. Any recommendations on buy back vs lemon law? Will I get full value I paid in a buy back?

I asked for the extra stuff since they didn't know how long it would take to get AC parts and because Alan heard 2 months. They used ceramic tint on the front windows and they look great. They set an appointment for the full ceramic, but the shop that does it is booked up for a while. Full Ceramic will get done in August. They did the 1,200 mile service at 400 miles, because the car met the date/age requirements. The 1,200 mile service ensures that your car can be certified when you trade it in and it's supposed to unleash BMW's full tune. It was fast when I got it, it may be faster now, not sure, but I know it's fast and handles in a way that doesn't abide to the laws of physics.

Dealer called and said they got all the parts in and they can schedule me in to do the work. I can't f#$% wait because driving around in 90 degree heat without AC was torture for me and the family.

Did they not give you a loaner? I wouldn't drive any vehicle - let alone a $100k+ vehicle with payments - without AC even if it gets me stuck in a 2GC.

I didn't want to leave my car at the dealer for uncertain amount of time. The last time I did that with my old F10 the car was dinged and scratched up while sitting at the dealer lot waiting for a part for 2 months. The original ETA of the compressor was no earlier than end of July and that was assuming it wasn't going to be delayed. Plus with the pandemic i'm not too keen with hopping into a loaner car either.

As for the service being done early, I'd be pissed if the did it 800 miles early. It's a mileage interval service, not a time interval.

My dealer has or the parts in and car is currently being worked on. He said it is a big job so it'll be a few days. I don't mind the 750XI loaner in the meantime. If you want to reach out to bmw of Edison service, ask for Jim Crowe and let him know that Tim with the Green X5 put in a good word and see if he can get you in without a wait.

^^ I didn't realize your M50 had the issue too.
Thanks for the info. So far my dealer has been good to me and I plan to bring the car in this week for sure. I was hoping they could do it in a day so I don't have to drive back and forth but going by what you are saying that doesn't look likely. Alan

Heres an interesting post from the another member with a failed compressor on his M50i. Supposedly the new compressors coming in have a different part number. I am going to try to find out from my parts dealership when I bring the car in.
Here is the thread - https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...9&postcount=12

My dealer just confirmed the compressor is IN but the condenser is not. Something like 63 condensers are on the back-order list and 33 are coming to US. Have no idea what the facts are as there have been several rumors floating around as the status of the issue. BMW NA have been NO help...the dealer has been great at keeping me informed but I still don't have an ETA on when the repair will be completed.

We picked up an X5M last week. The build was the week of June 22nd I believe. AC worked on delivery and pretty much not since. It kicked on once on the highway for one ride. Took it to the dealer today and of course its working while there. They spoke with BMW NA and think it may require a software update to correct the issue first.
Has anyone experienced that solution? Thank you |

Sounds like your compressor is on it’s way out. Insane they are still building them with faulty units.
My car goes in on Monday for the ac compressor/condenser swap. I’ll try to get as much info from the tech while I am there. Alan |
