2024 X5 40i Check Engine Light & it's gone

Pre-started my car as it felt like -28’ C today and I don’t like driving in a coat. When I got in to drive there was a CEL on. I figured it may have triggered a sensor on the cold start as it’s unusually cold. Drove about 250km today with 3 stops and on the last stop (about 30km from home the light went off)

I’m glad I don’t have to take it to the dealer. Only 3500km on the odometer and I’ve only had it since Oct 2023!

Don't count on this being a one-off occurrence, and it will likely reoccur.

Initial occurrence:

Powertrain: 40i X-Drive
Build date: 12/16/23
Software Verion: 11/2023.30
Odometer: 80 miles
Date: 1/4/24
No messages/warnings
CEL off after short break and restart

Second occurrence:
Odometer: 246
Date: 1/17/24
No messages/warnings

Again, after about an hour away I came back and restarted the engine and the CEL is no longer on.

3rd Instance
Odometer: 274
Date: 1/19/24
No longer intermittent, CEL is now on 100% of the time.

Hope the vehicle remains operational until the service appointment.

Taking it in to get checked out 2/9/24.

Same here. Had a CEL come on with 5400 miles on the odometer and it went away next day. Still took it into a dealer though. They said they updated a software and it should be fine but who knows.

I have a 2024 x5. I got it May 2023. The check engine light constantly comes on. The dealer has reprogrammed the car twice. And on the other occasions I have brought it they said they “cleared the code”. I brought it in again yesterday. They said it is due to the recall for the integrated braking system which has no fix right now.
Looking at my service paperwork my car was putting out code D34420. I looked it up and it says it indicates a fault in the FlexRay system control module which is a high speed communications protocol used to connect the vehicles electronic components. This fault can affect the operation of driving assistance and ride control systems such as Adaptive Drive.

Does anyone have an experience with this code and constant check engine light coming on?

2024 X5 M60i here and just experienced a CEL with no error messages yesterday for the majority of the day. In the AM doing a trip to the grocery store no issues. Got the X5 all cleaned up for a photoshoot in the evening and no CEL at first and then when I went to pull it in the garage the CEL was present. Turned the X5 off and left it for a little over an hour, then got back in to drive to the photoshoot and the CEL was still present and remained on for the 30 minute drive. The CEL persisted for several of the starts/stops to move the X5 around for different spots for photos but did clear for a short amount of time. Then when I went to head back home, the CEL came back and persisted during my entire 30 minute trip back home. All of this with iDrive giving no control messages and stating that “Everything is OK”.

One trip to the dealership seems to have corrected the intermittent CEL issue in my case. I believe the problem was related to the active shutters (see "Valvetronic adjustments" in invoice). Two fault codes were identified: 035886 and 035887.

M60i doesn’t have active shutters so definitely a different problem for mine. Could be something to due with the battery though.
