I didn't see anything specifically mentioned about Highway Assistant that Brendan///M was asking about, which is the new version of self-steering that works up to 85mph that just arrived in the 7er and X7.

It's spelled out in the regular X5 press release as being part of Drive Assistant Pro, but is conspicuously absent here in the X5M LCI info. Excerpt from the regular X5 LCI press release:
Driving Assistant Professional Package now offers Highway Assistant.

The new Highway Assistant, part of the optional Driving Assistance Professional Package, ushers in a new dimension of assisted driving in the 2024 BMW X5 and X6, bringing with it new levels of convenience and stress-free travel over long distances. It allows the driver to take their hands off the steering wheel when driving on limited access highways at speeds up to 85 mph. Drivers must, however, always maintain focus on the road ahead and be prepared to assume responsibility for steering.
Perhaps BMW thinks no one will want that kind of assist feature in a full M car? But these cars are so good at covering long distances that I still think it would be helpful. May have to wait for the order/pricing guides to know for sure.

Not sure yet - the color choices? Surprised no Donnington, skyscraper, or TB2. I don’t love the promo green. Will need to see this in person to make an official call.

Love the design. Hate the intro video. It might be the worst video BMW has released in the past few years.

Oh wait: almost forgot about the Dee cringe intro. 🤡

Right, not specifically mentioned but I cant see why they would strip highway assist out of DAP on purpose when the X5 LCI has it.

Mostly because carbon buckets would be stupid in an SUV, but also because a tall ride height + tall thigh bolsters would make getting in/out a horrible situation.

I’m surprised BMW doesn’t offer a composite brake system on these. I’d think the take rate would make it worthwhile to offer them as an option.

I maintain the E70 was the perfect BMW SAV. Clean, timeless, and still modern design. Engaging driving dynamics.

Is it just me, or does it feel like BMW is following rather than leading in some areas?

Example, only a handful of hard buttons in favor of a larger touch screen. Didn't manufacturers already figure out you can go too far with this a few years ago? Feels self-serving (cost reductions) not customer focused.

Big negative for me.

Agreed. At least they didn't Fxxx that up.

Lately I find myself just hoping BMW doesn't screw up new designs vs. actually hoping for something better.

Huge step in the wrong direction to eliminate buttons.

Recall idrive removing them then it coming back. This is the second time now they do this. People are complaining. It’s not like they made things easier. Remember- we have to drive this thing too while we navigate screens.

Watch there be litigation on this- someone will sue and say it was too hard to navigate screens and drive.

Voice commands never work for me.
There is plenty of room for a heated/cooled seat button below the massaging seat & passenger control buttons too.

Really hoping BMW returns to offering logical driver centered cockpits with more physical buttons. Talking about safety, what engineer thought it was a good idea to remove the ACC gap adjustment controls on the steering wheel?

Great question. Maybe so they can sell you CF upgrades?

The lower center section in black plastic a la the G87 M2 looks unfinished and uninspired.

I will have to get an IMoG one.
