Apple CarPlay Issues

Hi everyone, so new car only about 3500 miles on it. CarPlay was setup and working and now it doesn’t. When I go into the settings and change it to I drive it works for just phone and music but when I change to CarPlay it doesn’t connect and gives me a warning to retry connection. I’ve tried to reset I drive and reset phone as well as re setup from beginning. Thanks in advance for any ideas as I am out of them!

before entering the vehicle, are both wifi and bluetooth on? they both need to be on to establish CarPlay connection properly. if one or both are off, it won’t connect via CarPlay. once CarPlay connection is established, the wifi icon greys out while the bluetooth icon remains blue.

I’ve had my 45e for 2+ years and use CarPlay daily with >99% connection rate. my routine consists of turning on bluetooth every morning after I turn off my alarm (wifi is always on). only once did I have to set up CarPlay again (it was after the 03/2021 OTA update.)

They are both on. If I change connection mode from bmw I drive to car play I get the cannot connect. Think something is wrong because it was all fine until it wasn’t.

you shouldn’t have to change connection mode. if CarPlay was set up properly, then connection mode will stay on CarPlay. mine does.

did you check your iPhone settings such as the CarPlay section and ensure it is turned on for your BMW ID?

Yeah that setting is correct, it is makes no sense because it was working and now it doesn’t yet I’ve changed “0”

This is me connecting fresh. You will notice in the last it’s says Bmw I drive not CarPlay. When I change it, it refuses to connect.

I can't recall if IOS had a recent update but I recall I did a update about a 10 days ago.

Anyhow, FWIW, I am experiencing some random issues @ times where ID won't connect to phone. I suspect it was due to the software update and it will just -sort- itself out on the next IOS update.

Yeah I’m up to date, just super weird it just quit. I did do a full settings reset on the phone and that didn’t help either so who knows.

Take it to your local dealership and have a genius figure it out coz it sounds like you tried all the right options

iPhone 14 Pro on iOS 16.3.1

I seem to recall the format of the name on the iPhone was the issue for some. this is mine (no connection issues)

when you go to connected devices in your car, did you remove everything? also did you delete from phone CarPlay/bluetooth under BMWxxxx. I noticed on the last update it accepts one phone CarPlay and rest BMW iDrive

This sounds ridiculous but I’ve noticed in my 2020 X3M, if the key battery is low (or near dead), I get CarPlay connect issues

They are definitely linked somehow because if the key isn’t in the car I notice CarPlay sometimes disconnects as well.

Sounds insane, but have you tried replacing the battery in your key and then reconnecting? (It worked for me, after a similar sounding debacle to yours)

Car is 3 months old so hope that’s not the issue but at this point I’d try anything lol

I didn’t experience any CarPlay connection issue in my wife’s G30 (iDrive 7) when my key fob battery needed replacing. I’m still on the original key fob battery on my 2YO 45e, though
