As malvern_man points out, it will lessen the effort to keep your wheels looking clean as well. I think your 20” wheels would also be more labor intensive than my 21s to clean. My shop is charging $500 as well to ceramic coat the wheels, barrels, and calipers. Half that if only doing the wheel face.
malvern_man had put me on the fence with his suggestion, and now Shllshck, you have pushed me over .

Will go ahead with ceramic coating my wheels too..

You won't regret getting your wheels ceramic coated.

Mine are coated on the outer and inner faces, the barrels and the calipers.

After washing the wheels I use Gyeon Wet Coat which is a spray on rinse off product. I also use Bilt Hamber Atom Mac to stop the discs from rusting.

+1 for Gyeon Wet Coat - such an easy and effective product to incorporate into the wash routine.

An update: got the wheels ceramic coated as well this Monday by the same detailer who used CQuartz DLUX.

They recommended using STEK Wheel Cleaner for washing the wheels.

Will use the Gyeon Wet Coat and the Bilt Hamber Atom Mac products as well.

Thank you for all your suggestions!

I can recommend Garage Therapy One wheel shampoo, it's the only wheel shampoo that I use now. I use mine in an IK Pro 2 pump foamer together with wheel woolies, ultra soft detailing brushes and a Garage Therapy wheel mitt.

I also use Gyeon Wet Coat and Bilt Hamber Atom Mac.

+1 to all the comments about ceramic on wheels (nice-looking wheels, BTW!) and to the praise for Carbon Black. I don't think I'm brave enough to do CB myself but, man, that is one good-looking X5! Well done!

Looks like you’re in the Seattle area too I got my ‘23 X5 45e Carbon Black M Sport from BMW of Bellevue just earlier this month. Got mine PPF’d at Prestige Auto Salon

EDIT: No idea why some pics are rotated :-/

Thanks. Will think about it. The cost is $500 (in the same detail shop that I had done the ceramic coating).

I plan to hand wash the car myself as the local shop charges $50 (and this is a repeat expense). Realistically, I aspire to do a hand wash once a month. If ceramic coating the wheels will make my job easier, while at the same time protecting their finish, then it might be worth the expense.

$500 presumably USD is a lot for just the wheels! Given the heat around the area, it'll wear out quickly and I personally definitely wouldn't go with it. Mine were coated with G Techniq C5 for 1.5 years now. Not sure how much an effect I still notice. Plus, let's face it, even with ceramic coated wheels, pressure washing won't be enough to get all the brake dust off. If you do contact wash (brush or micro fibre mitt), then it won't make a massive difference.

Crystal Serum Ultra + EXO on the paint has held up nicely though, applying equivalent of Reload very 6 months to maintain it best I can. I do my own hand washes as well, spending roughly 20 minutes each time on the 4 wheels.

Edit: though if you're happy to pay to re-apply yearly then go for it.

Thanks for you thoughts and insights hiki08! I already got the ceramic coating done on the wheels, and I don't think I will be getting them coated on a yearly basis .

If the ceramic coating helps reduce (a percentage of) brake dust adhering to the wheels, I will be happy. I do agree that when doing contact washes, the ceramic coating will not make a huge difference. However, I am hoping the wheels will look cleaner in-between the washes.

I will post the state of my wheels after a year, along with the wash record, mileage etc; will be interesting analysis/comparison .

How long does the coating last on the wheels?

Good question Ripple_NC. I will defer to malvern_man on that question. My coating has only been on a little over a month. I’m new to the ceramic and PPF world. I would imagine needing to manually re-coat periodically.

I had mine ceramic coated on June 21st 2022 so it's still quite new, I had the wheels coated with Gyeon Q² Rim which is rated at around 12 months on the Gyeon website. I clean my wheels with Garage Therapy One wheel shampoo and I 'top up' the ceramic coating with Gyeon Wet Coat after each wash.

Ripple_NC, I too got them coated a month back. Will know better after a year or so and I will post my experience, but the detailing shop mentioned that it typically lasts a year or two (but YMMV).
