Racechip Question

Hey all,

Have a 2020 M50 and was thinking about adding the racechip.

My concern is that I assume the engine, drivetrain, transmission etc we’re built, w/ a level of margin, for the power numbers the engine came with. I know the M diff and some other components are designed to take a beating but are there some “weakest links” that could give out with a considerable boost in power?

I know there’s always wear and tear regardless and realistically this will increase that, just curious if it’s minimal or if there are certain components that will give out materially faster with the increased power.

Thx!

I believe the power increase by the piggyback is within the safety margins. There are people running the same engine and transmission at 650+ horsepower. A reputable piggyback tune shouldn't cause trouble to the engine and transmission unless there are defective internal parts on that particular vehicle from the factory.

Most piggybacks use an "additive" map which just takes the factory signal and adds 3-4 psi of boost depending on which map setting is selected. As long as you select the correct map for the octane and mods you have, should be fine. Crap gas on a stock engine can just as easily kill it.

If you put 2-3 gal of E85 into a full tank of 93 octane, you feel that the car pulls significantly better

I have a Racechip GTS Black that I have for sell that I took off my old 2020 X5M50i. I went the bootmod route and don’t need it anymore.

Burger is showing a little over 100HP gain and even more torque with their JB4 on Map 2 and 93 octane fuel for the M60i. Good bump and quite a bit more than what was seen with the M50i.
Keep in mind that this is power at the wheels not crankshaft.

The jb4 is the only piggyback that can datalog, meaning it can monitor timing, boost, and fuel in real-time. That makes it the most aggressive while staying in the safety margins. And in the worst possible scenario, the JB4 will kick the car back to stock power if it feels it is not handling the power well.

Other tuners must either be more conservative or blindly add boost and hope that the ECU protects the car if things go south.

Is that with a Piggyback in place?
