2022 X5M comp wheel/ tire options

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
Hey all

Just picked up a new X5MC and looking to change out the wheel setup. Do all-seasons even exist? I have looked through the threads but I see most have 2 setups.

If I do grab a 2nd setup I would prefer they fit the 2023 XB7, since I will ultimately transitioning to that SUV once it becomes available.

Thanks

I went through the same dilemma when I picked up my car. There are NO matching sets of all seasons for the 21/22" combo wheel size.

The issue is finding a rear 315/30/22 all season tire. They just don't exist. There is a bespoke Bentley Pirelli PZero all season version, but a matching front tire is not available. You can mismatch the pzero rear with an all season scorpion front, but no one has reported doing that.

Many just resort to running Pirelli winter snow tires for winter, or just use a different car in winter months if you live in an area which has snow.

You can put a front OEM wheel on the rear and it will work well. I have 2590 miles that way with 295 Michelin ps4s tires. Works great.

Thing is it's not just that the ps4's are bad in the snow. They are bad in cold weather and cold wet conditions and just generally in the cold say below 40 degrees. The tires could crack and that's a problem aside from the terrible traction issue. So I don't see how anyone that gets any cold or cold wintery weather can run a summer performance tires on any car/suv in winter.

can you downsize the tire ? less wide front and rear that might come up with a solution? I will need winters also.

The 295/35/21 front tire is not an issue. A plethora of all seasons exist in that size. The 22 rear is the issue. Even when you down size to 285/30/22 (which I don't recommend) you still have very limited tire choices.

The best answer if you want a wide variety of all season and general tire choices is already solved by a member here. Buy a pair of the front 21" wheels and put them in the rear. That way, you can run a square 295/35/21 setup.

What would be the equivalent front tire in a 22? Would a 275/35/22 work in the front? It’s the same as on the x5 m50i?

Can we run the following in an all season?

295/35/21 Fronts

rears: 305/35/22 or 305/30/22 or 315/25/22,

Lionheart makes their LH-Five tires in an all-season. im ok with downsizing for the winter with a temporary odd sized rear set up on my 22" but which tire will work best for the rears that I noted above.

I have run these tires on my trackhawk for the winter and they did well in the cold. Slushy, and light snowy roads.

Any feedback on which rears will work would be appreciated.i dont care if the speedo is off, I just need to get myself through the winter with something other then pirellis.

Just mounted my Pirelli Scorpion Winters for the first time and wow is there a huge difference in comfort. The car is SO much more comfortable than the Michelins however that comes with a noticeable drop in grip. Tough to say which I'd prefer all year if we were able to keep one on. Glad there are no all season options available for F95/F96 because we'd be compromising on both ends. I used to be an all season guy on my F15 and now I see that I've been missing out on both ends

Agreed; night and day difference. Quieter and more comfortable however the Michelin are a performance tire and build for one thing and one thing only. High speed grip. Which they do very well.

Absolutely. You can feel a major difference in grip when accelerating. I guess nice to have a break from each

Just run the scorpion winters in the winter. Dont use all seasons in these sizes, they are absolute dog shit.

I think the best option , someone mentioned it before, get an extra pair of fronts for the rear, and go square 295/35R21. that should open more options like all season one by Michelin

Agreed. You sacrifice on both sides when running all seasons. I was lazy to swap from summers to winters and back every year but now that I was forced to I regret not doing so in the past for my previous cars

Actually thinking same thing, how did this work out; any issues running 295/35R21 rims all around long term?

Have you guys see tyres cracking?? We have a few mornings here around 30F. - no snow but is wet. Is it normal for Europeans to swap theirs too, as not done in Oz AFAIK
